Hale castorbean released for High Plains irrigation regions
The Hale castorbean hybrid variety, a dwarf internode type, is released jointly by the U S Department of Agriculture and Texas Agricultural Experiment Station for irrigated High Plains areas in Texas Oklahoma Kansas and New Mexico. Hale yields well resists bacterial and Alternaria leaf spots has a strong root system but requires balanced nitrogen and moisture to avoid lodging. Seed available to seed producers this year with farm seed in 1962. maturity about one week after Baker 296 and one week before Dawn. In 1960 on farm trials Hale produced up to 2325 pounds per acre.

Brady High FFA Chapter Opens Year With 50 Members
Fifty members attended Brady High FFA’s first meeting of the year on September 5. President Donald Anderson spoke about the state FFA convention trip with Frank Teague, Chapter Advisor E. L. Ross, and new agriculture teacher Bill Coleman. The group voted to delay Greenhand initiation for two to three weeks and formed a committee to report back next meeting. Members named to the committee include Jerry Bearden and Virgil Moore.

In plots near Plains of Texas Hale averaged 2479 pounds per acre, beating Baker-296 and Dawn. Hale features erect fruiting branches, non shattering seed capsules removable after frost, and 51 percent oil.
