Brady Firemen Take Two Trophies at Ozona Meet

Brady Volunteer Fire Department officials and volunteers returned with two trophies from the Hill Country Firemen's Association semi annual convention in Ozona. Brady won first place in the three man race with a 13 second run and earned another for second in the one man race at 17 seconds. The three man team also placed third in water polo behind Coleman. The next meeting is set for April 14 in Winters.

Students Bon Fire Sparks at Pep Rally

A bonfire expected to burn through the pep rally was prematurely lit at the Thursday event before Friday night football. Students aimed for lasting flames through the rally, but the fire went up in smoke earlier than planned.

Special to The Standard Brownwood Texas Tuesday reports a Brady High School alumnus starring for Howard Payne as the Yellow Jackets upset Texas A&I 15 to 8. Dan Gandy rushed 49 yards on 17 carries to lead HPC, with teammates Royce Blackburn Shirl Gandy Dorman Riddles and Forest Hanson contributing. Hanson's 43 yard aerial and Riddles 20 yard catch set up the winning score. Blackburn, hobbled by an ankle injury, is expected back for the East Texas State game Saturday.

Gandy Baby Born in Brownwood Hospital

Stephen Kyle Gandy was born at 9 15 a m Tuesday at Medical Arts Hospital Brownwood to Mr and Mrs Dan Gandy. The newborn weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces. Gandy is an Howard Payne gridder and former all state fullback for the Brady Bulldogs. Mrs Gandy is Bette Rowden daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Bowden of Brady. Grandparents are Mrs Valerie Gandy of Houston and Barney Gandy of Baytown. Great grandparents are Mr and Mrs W R Duncan of Calf Creek.

Congressman Fisher Attacks Foreign Aid as Aid to Enemies

U S Representative O C Fisher urged that foreign aid go only to committed friends at a Mc Culloch County Farm Bureau meeting in Brady High School. He criticized the Peace Corps Bill urban renewal and other federal programs while praising local watershed projects and warning against endless federal spending. At a membership meeting on Tuesday the Texas Farm Bureau debated exempting farm machinery repairs from the 2 percent state sales tax and creating a committee to study Texas school textbooks for Marxist propaganda and indoctrination concerns.
