A break in at the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company on 319 East Lockhart was discovered at 7 am after thieves pried open a front door and opened a steel cabinet to take a money sack containing about £300 in cash and checks. The plant reported the incident occurred Tuesday night.
Miss Jewell Jones reported vandalism while at a film. A pocketknife slash across the front seat ripped upholstery and foam in a 1957 Oldsmobile, parked on the west side of Blackburn near Myers building. Insurance covered the loss.
A Monday night theft at a Hill Country cream plant saw suspects break into the rear of a cream truck, take cream and the keys, and remove a driver's board and a two cell flashlight. The loss was discovered Tuesday morning.
John W. Rodgers of Melvin remains limping five days after a branding incident in which a 500 pound calf escaped a squeeze chute. Mrs. Rodgers says her husband, a bystander, and two others were injured when the calf overpowered them.
Maj. Gen. Carl L. Phinney of Dallas will command an inspection of Brady’s National Guard unit Sunday. Lt. J. D. Hampton hosts at the Armory with Col. Thomas S. Bishop and Lt. Elmer L. Stephens present. Phinney aims to learn the 36th Division reorganization schedule and inform local commanders.
Harold Byler of Utica New York spent Friday and Saturday in Brady visiting his mother Daysie Byler manager of the Retail Merchants Association.
In the seven days ending Tuesday McCulloch County logged seven traffic wrecks with three deaths and ten injuries. Highway Patrol records by G J Matthews show property losses around $11 150. The fatal crash at Voca added to five total deaths for the year, the worst county count in years.
Thomas N. Riley twenty three of Moe Gregor was injured when his truck and trailer carrying three hundred sacks of treated seed jackknifed off U S 190 about 8 am Tuesday four and a half miles east of Brady. Riley was trapped for about twenty minutes but not seriously hurt and remained in Brady Hospital.
Brady High girls beat Mothers Athletic Club 30 to 29 in a crowd spirited game at the BHS gym. Coach Laurice Hunter praised the Pupettes as they showed sharp shooting and hustle while Coach Ed Whiteley officiated and even scored for the mamas when behind. Season tickets go on sale offering 12 home games for 3.75.
Conrad Carlson a Brady taxidermist opens his shop for the hunting season. He is mounting deer heads from Wyoming Colorado and Utah and a large bear. Carlson, with 40 years in the business, says he can finish trophies faster if hunters bring them in soon for Christmas.
Mrs A W Moseley and Miss Laurie Barfoot attended the Angelo stage show Mark Twain in San Angelo on Thursday night at the City Auditorium.
Three girls returning to town to watch a 3 p.m. program after picking cotton crashed their 1941 Chrysler on a curve about a mile north of Brady. Reta Mae Estes 17 suffered cuts, along with Patricia Willingham 13 and Janie Lou Currie 15. Estes went to M&S Hospital while the other two were treated at Brady Hospital.
Dale Anderson 19 a Brady Golden Gloves boxing champion was injured when his car lights dimmed and his vehicle crashed into a tree at Richards Park near Memory Lane. He was tossed from the car and treated at Medical and Surgical Hospital where he said his arm would mend. He is the son of Mr and Mrs W O Anderson.
Sally Miller and Rilla Miller, Brady 4-H girls, topped the Hill Country Angus Sale in Fredericksburg. Sally earned 600 dollars for her breeding heifer and Rilla 570 dollars for her cow and calf, both from Sweet Briar Angus Farm. They were accompanied by County Agent Jimmy Casenbury. Other local breeders included Tommy Brook and Dr G H Ricks.
Brady Bulldogs hold District 17 AA title and prepare for Fredericksburg in a key clash. injuries threaten key players Bode Dutton and McBride while Edlin Hahn and Sessom or Lafuente step up. Fredericksburg, recovering from district injuries, eyes a fresh start after an open date.
Gov Price Daniel designated November 16 to 22 as Professional Laundry and Dry Cleaning Week in Texas. Mayor G C Kirk proclaimed the week for Brady, praising the vital role of laundry and dry cleaning businesses in the local economy and the city’s pride in its establishments.
The Mc Culloch County Community Chest drive begins Monday with Mrs. Ed Davenport as section chair. Workers will contact donors next week and many prefer monthly drafts from their bank accounts. The target is 10 427.12 to fund 10 groups including the Home, American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and others. The organization section began this week and workers report Friday at 4 p m to the Chamber of Commerce office.
