Mc Culloch County Commissioners Court appointed two election judges Albert Gray and Mrs Vivian Hurd. The park caretaker received a six percent raise matching city policy. Court approved a grant application to the Texas Criminal Justice Council for a second year of a comprehensive adult probation program for Coleman Brown Mc Culloch and Mills Counties with funds allocated to the grantee and a conditional continuation option.

Balloon lands near Brady after long flight
A large five million cubic foot balloon carrying instruments including an infrared telescope landed 10 miles south of Brady after drifting about 150 miles from its launch near Palestine. National Balloon Center officials called it the largest of its kind, with a 92,700 foot peak reached during a 9 hour 24 minute flight begun at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday.

Freak Auto Fire Leaves One Burned
A freak auto fire on the Brownwood Highway near the bridge across from Tony Byrd's welding shop left Billie Joe Nixon severely burned and Arthur Rosett uninjured after a trailer hitch punctured the fuel tank. Nixon, a Deridder Louisiana resident, exited the car and fell into flaming gasoline. she received third degree burns over 85 percent of her body and was airlifted to a San Antonio army hospital after initial treatment at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital.

Three Attend Historical Meeting In Barton County Area
Three McCulloch County members of the Edwards Plateau Historical Association attended the 11th annual meeting at Barnet last Saturday. Attendees included John Brown of Stacy and Mr. and Mrs. George Engdahl of Rochelle. Afterward the group toured the restored Fort Croghan museum the old Mormon Mill and several other sites.
