The American Cancer Society, a member of the McCulloch County Community Chest, funds education, research and patient services. Texans face 9 600 cancer deaths last year. early detection could save thousands. Nationally over 7 million for research across 1 000 scientists in 152 institutions. Texas adds 250 000 in-state.

Eight Year Commercial Feeding Program Kicks Off

The Chamber of Commerce and C C Livestock Committee sponsor an eighth year of the commercial feeding program for McCulloch County FFA and 4 H youths with record entries expected. Local weighings and judging occur Saturday with experts from Texas Livestock Marketing Association. Contestants must enter minimum animals per division and prizes range from boots to belts and buckles. An educational trip next spring awaits winners and participants.

Community Chest Launches Second Division Drive

MecCulloch County Community Chest starts a new division with Monday and Tuesday briefings at the Chamber of Commerce. Subcommittees meet at 10 am and 3 30 pm to set plans for Agriculture Automotive Public Service Building Food and Drug Insurance and Real Estate Oil and Gas Professional Retail School Teachers. Advance gifts drive aims for 9903 across 10 agencies in the all in one campaign.

Brady Melvin Lohn and Rochelle FHA girls travel to Menard High School for District 2 gathering from 8 30 a m to 3 p m. Two Brady carloads attend with Patsy Hext voting delegate. Rochelle plans a 29 member delegation with Mrs L A Bryson and three sponsors. Rochelle to run recreation hour and host panel with Area 7 historian Tom Langseth and others. program includes exhibits and song leading.

Generator Repaired Lets J Engine Return to Service

Brady Water and Light Works expects its largest engine back in service Friday afternoon after a stator burned out last August. The 16 000 pound component was repaired in Ridgeway Pa and arrived in Brady Sunday morning. During downtime the plant used smaller engines and bought power from West Texas Utilities Co.

Funeral Services Held for W. W. Taylor in Littlefield

Mr and Mrs Tol Roberts attended the funeral in Littlefield Saturday for W W Taylor brother in law of Mrs Roberts. They traveled with Mrs H E Hartsell of Corpus Christi Jim Hand of Harlingen and Don Hand of San Antonio. Taylor a carpenter died Thursday Oct 4. Burial followed in Littlefield.

Jubilee stock car season ends with a destruction derby on Sunday. Drivers will crash specially prepared cars until one vehicle remains operational. Time trials begin at 2 30 p m with races following at Mi Admission is 75 cents for adults and free for children under 12.

New Ticket Booth Ready at Bulldog Stadium Friday Night

A new ticket booth on the east side will be ready for fans at Bulldog Stadium Friday night for the Brady Del Rio game. The plan to build it this year was accelerated after a Lampasas school bus scraped the old rock booth and knocked it off its foundation. the bus was only scratched.

Fires Destroy Homes Of 2 Brady Families

Two Brady families lost homes to fires this week. Earl Williams’s four room house near Jendale Addition burned with possessions lost. limited water and no nearby fire plug hindered efforts. W B Flint’s unoccupied stone veneer house at 1501 North Walnut burned, roof caved in, origin unclear, electricity cut since last July. Minor damage at Robert Menefield’s 1204 Mulberry from a kitchen stove fire.
