Centex Telephone Annual Meeting Set in Goldthwaite

The 11th annual Central Texas Telephone Co operative meeting will be held October 6 at the American Legion Hall in Goldthwaite. Registration begins at 1 PM with the meeting at 2 PM. Albert Saunders Retired Farmer Dies at 76

Albert Saunders 76 of Rt 1 Brady died Tuesday September 29 at 10 am in the State Hospital San Antonio. Born January 24 1888 in Hays County he was a Baptist and formerly of the Fife community. McCulloch County held its first Lamb-O-Rama at Plateau Restaurant with Frank Orts of Texas A&M showcasing economical lamb cuts from crown roast to lamburger. Mrs. Vyvien Duncan displayed the cuts while audience samples affirmed lamb as delicious when prepared properly. County Agent Kuykendall and Mrs. Cole of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association highlighted the group’s work, pelts sales, and support for wool and mohair promotion, with door prizes and thanks to helpers. Duncan urged teaching children to eat lamb to boost the local sheep and goat industry.

Emergency Feed Program Opens for McCulloch County Stockmen

McCulloch County is designated an emergency area, making livestock owners eligible for the emergency Livestock Feed Program. Applicants may buy CCC grain sorghum at the ASC office after committee approval. Prices match last winter at 9.06 per cwt for secondary livestock and 1,645 per cwt for primary stock.

Diverted Acres May Be Grazed In McCulloch

McCulloch County farmers approved by the Secretary of Agriculture to graze diverted acres under the 1964 feed grain and wheat diversion programs. The change extends grazing eligibility to a later date than originally set, shifting from November 1 to a new schedule.
