A small town feature recalls high school football teams using two way radios for sideline communication. Brady and Lampasas unknowingly shared a frequency causing interception of plays. A rainy Lam pasas sideline boy overheard the talks ending the broadcasts as teams returned to pre electronics play.
County Commissioners Court asked the City of Brady to share welfare costs, noting most cases are inside city limits and proposing a joint program. The county spends about 5000 dollars yearly on food medicine and funeral costs. They also approved 250 dollars for the Christmas program in McCulloch County and a 25 dollar donation to McKnight State Tuberculosis Hospital gift shop for hospitalized patients. County Judge Love Kimbrough highlighted patient needs and forgotten residents.
Brady prepares for Christmas with a 10 foot sleigh carrying 60 children per ride, pulled by six Shetland ponies. Santa arrives Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with candy gifts and welcomes volunteers. Decorations cost about 1800 dollars funded by county city merchants and Chamber program led by James Isbell and others.
L. D. Schuessler 45 a Duncan Chevrolet Co. Brady mechanic died in a head on crash 1 1/2 miles south of Mason on U S 87. Clayton Thomas 42 of Mason also died in the same car. Mrs Harold Buford 20 of San Antonio died in the second car along with four seriously injured. Surviving family listed. Funeral notices detail Mason residents and kin.
Brady postmaster Mrs. Barry Francks urges early Christmas mail to prevent delays. She offers tips on complete addresses, strong packaging, proper postage, buying stamps now, and using free labels for local versus out of town delivery. She notes First Class four cents and Air Mail seven cents, and urges mailing distant cards before December 10 and nearby by December 15.
The county sponsors a free citizenship class for Latin American residents taught by Daniel Sanchez of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Sessions run 8 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday at East 10th and Willow Streets, with enrollment via the county judge’s office or Sanchez. The program aims to naturalize long-term residents to qualify for potential old age assistance.
The Brady Rotary Club sponsors Red Cross Bloodmobile recruitment for a December 1 visit at First Christian Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rotarians and the community are urged to participate to exceed the prior goal and aid those in need.
The Ol Houn Dawgs honor Coach Tommy Starnes and Brady Junior High football team with a chili supper next Monday night in Brady High School cafeteria at 7 30. Tickets are 50 cents. Parents and friends invited.

Brady cagers prepare to defend their district title as they start the hardwood season next Tuesday in Mason. Coach Ed Whiteley relies on five lettermen including captains Robert Ricks Gene Rowell and Charles Reynolds with Reynolds nursing a minor knee bruise. The roster features juniors Henry Langseth Darrell Roper and Brantley Foster plus sophomores and freshmen, and the schedule runs through January with several district games and tournaments listed.
The Book Fair at Richards Memorial Library runs through December 1 with new books for adults and children on display and available for purchase. Librarian Mrs. William L. Jackson invites everyone to visit and browse the selections.
The Brady High Bulldog Band earned a first division rating in inspection and a second division in marching at the regional Inter scholastic League contest in San Angelo. Majorettes won a first division in ensemble twirling led by Drum Major Charlotte Kyzar and team members Nancy Archer, Barbara McCord, Tony Flemming, Kathryn Leach, and Pat Porter. Charlotte won a first in solo twirling, while Pat, Kathryn, and Tony earned second.

Gatesville superintendent L C McKamie reported to Brady superintendent C A Reynolds that last Friday's Brady Gatesville bi district game grossed more than 4000 dollars. After official fees and Interscholastic League costs the schools should split about 2000 dollars each. McKamie praised Brady players and expressed appreciation for their sportsmanship and hospitality. He noted Gatesville's new experience and hopeful steady support to come.
The Rev. Marion Bond of the Church of the Nazarene was to speak at Brady's Community Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday night November 23 at 7 30. The St James Baptist Church choir would sing and the event is sponsored by the McCulloch County Ministerial Alliance.
The county runs a clothing store for needy families but continually lacks children's clothes. Mrs. Elizabeth Hughes says the drive needs donations of children's clothing. Donors should bring items to the State Welfare Office at 819 West Main for pickup and distribution.
