Mother and Child From Mexico Seek U S Doctors

Mrs. Maria Soto, 32, travels from a Mexican village 400 miles from the border with her daughter Rosa Maria, four years old, seeking treatment from U S doctors. Soto, not a widow, speaks little English and hopes medical help will let Rosa Maria walk and play like other children. They arrived in Brady, hoping professionals can give the girl a chance at healthier mobility.

Goldthwaite Co op names new manager as Hall resigns

Ralph G. Hall of Goldthwaite resigns as manager of the Central Texas Cooperative Telephone Company. He plans to move to Ingram to work with the Hill Country Telephone. The co op promotes Summy from bookkeeper to manager at Goldthwaite. Hall previously operated independent exchanges at Don, Doole, and Fisk before selling to the co op in 1952. Hall joined the co op as plant superintendent and later became manager about 14 months ago.

Empire Southern Gas asks Brady council for rate hike

Empire Southern Gas Company asks Brady City Council for authority to raise rates by about 17 percent with a hearing requested for future meeting. Pat Kenney and Bill Grant presented the plan signed by Empire president James A. Davis. The proposal would apply a single rate to Brady customers and remove church and school concessions while increasing charges for large industrial and commercial users.

Mother of Brady Teacher Dies in Millersview

Nellie Blanche Bryson 70, mother of Brady High School teacher Dorothy St. Clair, died at 6 am Wednesday at her Millersview home. Survivors include husband W C Bryson, two daughters, two sisters, and several grandchildren. Bryson taught 236 years across Doole Millersview Eola and Mertzon, often saying she would teach one more year. Funeral held Thursday at First Christian Church Millersvi.

Phone Company Seeks Rate Hike in Brady

Joni Allen, South Western States Telephone Co. West Texas division manager, told the City Council that Brady’s rates have been too low for five years. He cited rising costs and wage increases, noting plans for a 1958 system to enable direct dialing nationwide. The requested increases would lift a one party business line from $6 to $9.50 and a four party residence line from $2.25 to $3.78.

Tuesday marks the last regular classes in Brady schools and the final cafeteria day. No school is scheduled Wednesday or Thursday, but buses will run Friday morning for report cards at 8 90 a.m. and return around 9 30 a.m.

Brady High to Hold Baccalaureate Service for Seniors

The Rev. Don Manning will deliver the baccalaureate sermon at Brady High School Thursday night in the auditorium at 8. The Rev. Fred Carter will give the invocation and W. Fry will give the benediction. Student musical selections include trumpet and saxophone solos by Johnny Hendley and Jerry Woodard with accompanists, plus performances from Anita Jordan and Sandra Hargroves as recessional.
