Central Texas College invites residents to register for summer credit courses in Brady from 2 to 6 p m at the Chamber of Commerce office. Real Estate Finance meets Tuesdays 6 to 9 40 p m while Government 232 runs Mondays and Wednesdays 6 to 9 40 p m July 11 to August 10. First time registrants must provide immunization records including a diphtheria tetanus booster within 10 years and a polio booster. Call for more information.
Rev. James Franklin Mason 76 of Brady died at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. Services are at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with his son Rev. James B. Mason of Midland presiding. burial in Live Oak Cemetery. Born March 17, 1901, he married Nanny Bolden in 1922 and spent most of his life in Brady as a Church of God in Christ minister. Survivors include wife, son, two sisters, a brother, a step brother, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
McCulloch County Youth Center invites 6th to 9th graders to Friday evenings from 8 to 10 30 with parent chaperones. Students must sign in on arrival and sign out when leaving. Saturday nights welcome all youths but no parent supervision.
Lohn Supt Charles Brewster announced the Lohn School commencement will be held at the Lohn Tabernacle instead of the gym due to strong attendance interest. Graduating seniors listed are Royce Hemphill Freddie Pearce Gary Fischer David Fischer Donna Christian Janet Doyal Tommy Mendez and Sherri Huie.
Barry Lee Adair 24, a Baylor University graduate, was hired by the City Council to become City Superintendent. He will assume office June 10 replacing Jim Feazelle. Adair has prior roles in Cedar Park as city administrator and tax assessor collector and has worked with the Texas Water Quality Board and Heart of Texas Council of Governments. He led plans for a master plan and secured a 702 Planning Grant to aid city development.
Brady High School athletic director Paul Jette and the athletic department launched the Bulldog Scoreboard Fund to install a digital timing scoreboard at Bulldog Stadium. Donors from classes of 1975 76 and 77 contributed 1200, with 1800 more locally needed to reach a 3000 goal. The project, approved by Supt. Carroll Tatum and Principal Al Chance, will be financed by donations and ordered by June 10 for September use.
Casebearer spray dates for the pecan nut casebearer in McCulloch County are set for May 21 27. Casebearer activity has risen but remains slow due to cool nights. Prospects for high pecan yields look good this year with Malathion or gathion possible for yard trees and zinc sulfate recommended to address zinc needs. Follow label instructions and avoid spraying zinc sulfate on other plants especially fruit trees. The casebearer is a major spring cause of nutlet drop.
