Brady Trustees Set Early Spring Break and School Plans
Brady Independent School District trustees met in executive session to discuss Melvin School lands and a hearing by W. R. Siler. They shifted spring holidays to March 19–23 to avoid Easter, announced Head Start plans for next summer, approved curriculum units, and opened bids on Melvin School fence. John Lewis was reelected tax assessor-collector.

McCulloch 4 H Leaders Honored At District Banquet
At the District 7 4 H Awards Recognition Banquet in Brady, one man and one woman from each of the 20 counties received plaques and pins for outstanding leadership. From McCulloch County honored were Mrs. Robert Pearce and Karl Kiesling for their seven years of 4 H service in sheep beef and horse projects and for training livestock judging teams and contributing to shows and camps.

Brady High student earns national DECA honor in Los Angeles
Sharon Straley, Brady High School senior in distributive education, finished in the national top eight at the DECA Leadership Conference in Los Angeles with the Diamonds Are Forever manual. She ranked in the nation s top one percent among 129 000 students, one of five Texans to win awards, and was the only Brady finalist. Accompanied by DE coordinator Tommy Haney, she traveled with a 95 member Texas delegation, after winning state first place in San Antonio.

Couple Escapes Serious Injury In One Car Crash
Mrs. James Allen Gifford of Amarillo, 64, was treated and released after a one car crash four miles southeast of Brady on Texas Highway 71 at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Her husband, 71, driver of a 1966 Chevrolet, was uninjured. The Giffords were returning from Austin when rain slicked highway conditions caused the car to skid off the road and overturn. Mrs. Gifford was transported to Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital by Wilkerson Ambulance.

McCulloch County approves bond investments and staffing
McCulloch County Commissioners Court votes to invest 2000 dollars from the Permanent School Fund and 2000 from the Road and Bridge Fund in deposits. They appoint Charles Schaeg as County Auditor and authorize actions to sell land, secure bids for court room air conditioning, substitute bank securities, and hire extra staff for summer tax rolls.
