Garden and Home Show added to the July Jubilee schedule with tours for 15 to 20 homes and gardens. Tours run 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 3, as Mrs. D. A. Harkrider leads planning and calls for bloom-ready yards and city aid for vacant lots.
Jubilee parade committee voted to award ribbons for six divisions including commercial out of county organizations junior organizations religious and outstanding cowboy and cowgirl riders. Floats judged before the July 2 parade and may wear awards during the event with extra ribbons ordered. Chairs were named to secure entries and arrangements for visiting duchesses with transportation decisions to be finalized.
McCulloch County will hold three Democratic primary contests on July 28 for commissioner Precincts 1 and 3 and for constable Precinct 1. Deadline to file was Monday at midnight. Five men filed for commissioner Precinct 1 in Brady: H. B. Patterson, re election. Joe Jay. Paul Johnson. Walter L. Bryson. Audley Malmstrom. H R Kyzar and BD J Marsden had announced. Kyzar’s son said his father still intends to run and tried to file. Marsden said the deadline slipped up on him.
Mrs. Roy Hilliard of Brady sustained minor injuries in a motor vehicle accident near Santa Anna Wednesday morning. She was taken to Brady Hospital and released Thursday afternoon.
Robert Roddie who broke his knee in a motorcycle crash on South Bridge Street last Sunday was returned home from Harris Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth on Wednesday. He stays with his parents Mr and Mrs Jack Roddie at 802 West 12th Street and will remain in bed for several weeks with a heavy cast on his right knee.
Every man interested in his Little League boy is urged to be at Richards Park at 6 p m Friday to help complete the new baseball diamond. League President Lowell Brown says they cannot do it alone and lack the funds to finish the work, seeking electricians to connect the lights and finish the fence.
A Coleman meeting organized a Drouth Feed Dealers Committee to contest government claims in the 1954 program. James L. Daniel was named chairman with Lee Fawcett as vice chairman and A W Brunson as secretary. Coleman County Judge Walter K Boyd serves as treasurer and attorney.
Brady Junior High announces top students for the eighth grade. Valedictorian is 13 year old David Groves with a 97.75 average and active in basketball track piano and church work. Salutatorian Bonnie Brook 14 has 97.58 average and is head cheerleader. Two others close to top ranks are Joyce Sommerfeld 96.75 and Mary Ann Porter 96.25. Graduation exercises set for 10 30 a m Friday May 25 in the school gymnasium.
The Brady Junior High Band will announce its sweetheart at the annual spring concert led by Joe McDonough. The event is at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Brady High auditorium with admission 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.
Eleven seniors at Lohn High School will graduate Friday night in the tabernacle with Penrose Metcalf of San Angelo as speaker. James Finlay Jr. will present diplomas, with Kent Finlay introducing Metcalf.
McCulloch County 4 H girls hold their annual dress revue Saturday at South Ward School auditorium. Morning judging from 9 to 12 selects senior and junior winners to district revues in San Angelo and assigns open public attendance.
Ernst Otte was elected president of the Brady Band Boosters Monday night to succeed L. C. Brown. Other new officers include Yan Fowler as vice president Mrs Gene Samuelson secretary Mrs Frat Otte treasurer Jim Harkrider and Mrs Ben Dillon publicity Jal Brown concessions Mrs John Henry Campbell membership and Mra J B Mills as telephone committee chairman.
Earl Rudder of Brady seeks his first elected term as Texas General Land Office commissioner. He drew a last minute challenger when deadline passed Monday. Ned Price, Smith County judge at Tyler, will oppose him.
The Commodity Credit Corporation billed two Brady dealers for alleged drought feed program violations. GD Bell of Bells Feed Store owes 25 556 58 and Jim Robertson of Brady Feed Mill owes 15 560. Both refuse to pay, threatening to hand the issue to authorities. State ASC official G Carothers Jr warned suspension from the feed program if funds are not paid within 15 days. Robertson’s case pending. a second letter pressed for a satisfactory reply by May 5 before further action.
Brady’s Mexican colony schedules a Sunday event with a Mexican supper on the plaza in Villa Lerdo from 4 to 9 p m at $1 per plate. A bazaar benefits Guadalupe Catholic Church and proceeds from a Sunday night dance aim to rebuild the plaza pavilion damaged by last summer’s tornado.
Lt. Richard G. Horne credits Curtis Field with saving their plane and perhaps two lives after a forced landing en route from Amarillo to Taedo. He praises rotating beacon lighting and Brady residents for hospitality and quick response during the emergency amid heavy storms and fuel depletion.
