Nurse of the Year honored in McCulloch County
Ora Nell Cavin selected by the McCulloch County League of Vocational Nurses as Nurse of the Year and to represent the group at the state meeting in June. Cavin, licensed in October 1956, has 12 years as a doctor's office nurse plus surgery scrub work and two years private duty nursing. She has held multiple league offices since 1957, served as state president in 1964, and joined the Board of Trustees in 1969. She is mother of three, with a husband and six grandchildren.

Grand Jury Returns Seven True Bills At Session
The May term of the 35th District Grand Jury convened in the McCulloch County courthouse and returned seven true bills two no bills and two passes. Included in the true bills were James Vernon Wilson Ernest Mando Montano burg lary Frank Elred two counts of misdemeanor theft. The remainder of the defendants have not been arrested and their names cannot be released. Foreman Don Neal and District Attorney W Murray Jordan presided. The panel urged a traffic study at the US Highway 87 intersections with FM Road 42 17th Street 11th Street and Richards Park entrance.

Mrs. Sheffield Receives Howard Payne Scholarship
Buford Sheffield Jr. of Brownwood has been awarded the N. B. Bunin Scholarship at Howard Payne College in the elementary education field. The grant is awarded annually to worthy students. Mrs. Sheffield is formerly of Brady and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ricks.

Brown Replaces Oldham As Park Caretaker
A. R. Brownie Brown was hired by the City Council to replace John Oldham as caretaker and manager at Richards Park. Oldham plans to retire May 31, with Brown taking duties June 1 after his tenure with the Farmers-Rancher Co-op. City hires include Pete Wilson and Cotton Reeves in the water department. Auditors Balser and Davidson from Fredericksburg will audit city books at April 30 year end. Two portable rest rooms will be ordered and placed in the Dodge Heights addition at Brady Lake.

About 95 children age five to six eligible for first grade in Brady Independent School District will pre enroll May 12 in their attendance area. Brady High School releases its honor graduates led by valedictorian Gaylon Young and salutatorian Raymond Martin. About 90 seniors will graduate May 29 at Bulldog Stadium at 8 p.m. if weather allows. Delegates Elected To County Convention
Delegates to the McCulloch County Democratic Convention were listed by box, with voting to elect delegates to the State Democratic Convention in Dallas on Sept 15. Temporary chairman R S Moseley urged public attendance though only delegates will vote. Several dozen names from Brady Rochelle and Melvin districts were named. Voting boxes at Voca Mercury Placid and Doole did not hold precinct conventions.

Brady Trustees Tighten Immunization and Budget Moves
Brady Independent School District trustees voted to require boosters for smallpox diphtheria tetanus whooping cough and polio for entering first graders and approved a new consumer mathematics course for 1970 71. They also adjusted property tax assessment 50 for 1970 71 with grant changes boosting Title I to 54 333 and other ESEA library science and ag grants, plus a proposed bond budget increase and miscellaneous budget actions.
