Whooping Cough Clinic Slated Next Thursday

The Brady Lions Club sponsors a free immunization event for whooping cough and polio at South Ward School auditorium next Thursday. Dr Albert McCulloh, club president, reminds those due for second shots to return and urges first timers to begin the series then.

All-Popular Concert Sunday by Brady High Bulldog Band

Brady High School plans an all popular concert in the BHS auditorium Sunday at 3 pm. Diana Williamson sings How the Blues Began as the Dixieland Trio performs. Melvin Cowan Lanel Flanagin Bruce Tucker join Lynda Barker and Karl Otte for a trumpet trio. The cornet and trombone sections are featured and Anita Young presents a bell lyre solo. The drum major elect will be revealed next year Sunday.

City Asks Bids On Power Plant Expansion Plans

City Council called for bids on two power plant projects. One covers switchgear and electrical equipment for two new engines to be installed this summer. The second covers remodeling including a new roof steel beams and concrete columns. Bids due by 4 p m Tuesday May 26. Brady Assistant Coach K Y Owens to manage the city pool this summer.

Guadalupe Church Hosts Mother's Day Dance and Supper

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church will hold its annual Mother's Day dance and Mexican supper at the National Guard Armory on Saturday. Supper at 5 30, dance at 8, with music by Paulino Herrera. Queen candidates are Ernestina Sandoval Rosalinda Perez Mary Reyes and Olga Gonzales. Proceeds fund the church.

Navy Recruiter Outlines Current Military School

John Fulchler chief of the U S Navy Recruiting Office in San Angelo spoke on the current state of military schooling and recruitment efforts. He detailed programs, eligibility, and training paths for prospective sailors and the role of the office in local defense readiness.

Brady to Host 182 Boy Little League Signups

A total of 182 boys will play Little League baseball in Brady this summer starting June 15. They are divided into 12 teams across the American National and Texas Leagues with 41 in American 64 in National and 77 in Texas. Games run twice nightly on Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. Eligible players are 8 to under 13 years old by August 1.

Farmer of the Year Honored in San Saba Brady District

Marion F. Deans of Voca, a 30-year-old farmer, is named outstanding conservation farmer of 1958 by the San Saba Brady Soil Conservation District. The Brady Lions Club awarded him a plaque at a luncheon, recognizing his work turning a worn 251 acre sandyland into a profitable farm. Deans and his father John built up the operation, buying the farm in 1940.

Brady fullback Dan Gandy signs with University of Houston

Dan Gandy from Brady High School has signed a letter of intent with the University of Houston. The star fullback, known for a 1,751 yard season and 7.6 yards per carry, joins track athlete Bobby Weise at UH. Gandy earned all-state honorable mention and the Santa Fe Award, and is grandson of the Duncans of Calf Creek. He also plans to irrigate his Voca farm with new wells and tanks built since 1954.

Sections Organized For Progress Forum

Eight sections mobilize for the McCulloch County Progress Forum to be staged by the Chamber of Commerce May 18 to 20. Leaders for each group list chairs and co chairs with attendance officers named for Retailers Homemakers Farm and Ranch Professionals High School Seniors Trades Services and Employers and Industrial with meetings to be held during the three day period. Citizens may attend any session and are asked to submit written suggestions or use suggestion cards at the meetings.

Fire damages house on West Walker street

The home of Mrs. Ben Strickland at 505 West Walker was badly damaged by fire about 5 a.m. Thursday. The back porch appeared gutted while other rooms suffered severe smoke damage. No one was home. Mrs. Strickland had been staying with friends for two weeks after her husband’s recent death.

Lohn Senior Play “Galloping Ghosts” Staged May 12

The Lohn Senior Class presents the mystery comedy Galloping Ghosts by Dora Georgia Thomas and William Ellis Jones Tue May 12 at the Lohn Tabernacle. Cast includes Brenda Snodderass, Jaroy Moore, Lynett Snodgrass, Taylor Solsberg, Dianna Myers, Glenda Johnson and others. Curtain 8 p m with admission 60 cents adults 20 cents children.

Glenda Fowler Named ACC Cheerleader Next Year

Abilene Christian College freshman Glenda Fowler to serve among six ACC cheerleaders next year. Daughter of Egan and Mrs. Fowler of Brady she majors in physical education and participates in the ACC band serving on the band council as freshman representative. She also plays badminton.

McCulloch Shriners Plan Monday Night Meeting

McCulloch Shriners will meet in the dining room of the Masonic Temple at 7:30 p.m. to organize a Shrine Club in McCulloch County. All Shriners residing in the county are urged to attend.
