Brady High School announces 1971 valedictorian Fred McDonough and salutatorian Carolyn Lewallen. McDonough carries a 96.94 GPA and participates in multiple clubs and sports. Lewallen has a 96.33 GPA and is active in National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll and student clubs. Brady Bulldog Band Heads to Six Flags Contest
The Brady Bulldog Band departed Thursday at 5 p.m. for Six Flags Over Texas to compete in the Six Flags band contest in Class AA. They stay at the Ramada Inn Grand Prairie and perform at 8 a.m. Friday at the Inn of the Six Flags against bands from Texas Kentucky and Oklahoma. After the event the group will visit the park and return Friday night to the motel, planning to leave for home around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

General Telephone Co. representatives asked Brady City Council Tuesday night to raise business one and two party line rates to 14.75 and residential lines to 7.25 on one party, 6.25 on two party, 5.25 on four party with other extensions unchanged. The council took no action while also opening bids for a patrol car from Brady Motors at 2899 dollars including trade in and for various warehouse items with Continental Oil Co. the low bidder. They hired summer pool staff, set pool dates, accepted resignations, discussed paving projects, sent a delegate to a highway convention, observed Memorial Day, pursued annexation for the Solid Waste Site, and approved ski area changes and Fire Dept training manuals.

Mrs Bryson Named Nurse Of Year by Local Nurses
Mrs Herschel Bryson has been named Nurse of the Year by the McCulloch County League of Vocational Nurses. She will represent local nurses at the state LVN meeting in Beaumont in June. Bryson became a licensed vocational nurse in October 1966 after training at Brady Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a hall nurse at Brady Hospital until 1967, then as a dental assistant for Dr. Harry C. Priess. She led the local league since 1966, serving as president and on committees, with Red Cross Bloodmobile work and hospital fund drives. She has one son, Charles Lynn, and attends the Church of Christ.
