New Fiber Zein Promises Woollike Fabric Makers Eye Substitute
A Columbus Ohio report describes zein, a corncob based fiber, as a wool and Mohair substitute mixed with other fibers to create fabric that could rival wool. Skepticism remains about wear and appearance and the fiber’s practical durability. Also mentioned is a detergent made from sugar that could wash spinach sand and remove fruit and vegetable insecticides.

Texas Beef Council highlights parasites and new grain protectant
Beef briefs note internal parasites cause economic losses in beef markets and that low level feeding with pene thiazine shows strong parasite control results. A Kansas entomologist developed a farm grain protectant wet spray for wheat at two gallons per thousand bushels, costing about 2.5 cents per bushel. In Texas, brush control boosts cattle profits as Benavides Brothers sell 43 calves for 3906 dollars, with more cattle remaining. Four Texas 4-H members receive national camp invites for Washington, D C, June 15 to 22.
