Brady merchants prepare for Dollar Day on Wednesday May 4 offering discounts across merchandise lines. Brady fans follow horse racing news as Trim Destiny prepares for the Kentucky Derby with owner G R White and associates planning to attend in Louisville.
Brady grade schoolers underwent the Standardized Achievement Test series to gauge how well teachers convey subject matter and whether Brady students match Texas norms. The test, devised by UT and Southwest Texas teachers, covers 10 subjects across three tests with a focus on identifying weak areas to guide instruction.
Mrs. J. E. Shropshire 76 widow of the late Brady attorney and former mayor died at Brady Hospital. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near Katemney. She was born Aug. 30 1878 in Mason County. Survived by a son C. C. Christilles Seville Fla a daughter Estella Bonta Vallejo Calif six sisters a brother three grandchildren four great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed. Funeral directed by Wilkerson Funeral Home.
Mr and Mrs L R McWilliams Jr of Fredonia announce the birth of a son at Brady Hospital on Sunday.
Brady High auditorium hosted the Brady Junior High spring concert where Charlotte Riley, daughter of Mr and Mrs H J Riley, was introduced as sweetheart. She is band president and received roses from Marilaine May as Mary Anne Rudder and Linda Gapian bedhaza performed a You Belong to Me serenade. The event honored 18 seniors headed to high school next year including Marilaine May Susan Sorell Jeanette St Clair Charlotte Griffith Brenda Gary James Ricks Lanell Flanagin Byron Bratton Charlotte Riley Brenda Schaeg Sue Ethridge Bennie Teague Patty Broad Carleene Brown Reynold Carlson Johnny Moran Scierra Sue Brock Ebba Pence. Jeanette St Clair announced. solos featured Karl Otte on trumpet and Roger Spiller and Donald Sessom in a Davy Crockett duet.
Jubilee directors meet at the Chamber of Commerce to trim horse race ticket prices, approve a Jubilee parade, and set July dates. They vote to build rest rooms under the grandstand, prepare two dances, crown a Jubilee Queen by popular vote, and hold Sunday racing to cover July 4th.
Ninety veterans connected to the Veterans Land Program are summoned in civil suits against L. V. Ruffin B. R. Sheffield and ex-Land Commissioner Bascom Giles. Hearings in the district court began last Thursday with the ninth veteran on the stand and continue after a Friday recess. The state seeks to cancel three land transactions netting a claim of 507 675 67 and to recover payments.
Officials from five area Soil Conservation Districts gathered in Brady for a meeting. Attendees included representatives from San Saba Brady Brown Mills Concho Menard and Central Colorado districts.
Hill Country Bankers Association elected J. B. Davenport as president with A. P. Waldrop as vice president and Frank M. Montague Jr. as secretary. The group will meet annually and choose Kerrville for the April 1956 convention. Two hundred bankers attended the Brady hosted banquet at the National Guard Armory with western themed decor and a display of the National Guard’s silver service.
