4-H and FFA Members Exhibit Show Animals

McCulloch 4-H and Brady FFA members placed multiple animals at the San Angelo Stock Show. Deborah Matthiesen, daughter of Norbert and (Doole) Matthiesen, took second in heavyweight finewool lambs and sold the lamb for 200 dollars bred by Irby McWilliams of Menard. Other placers included Calvin McWilliams and Menzies McWilliams with lambs and steers. Mike and Jerry Probst showed Angus heifers. County Agent Jerry DeBord praised their preparation. the McWilliamses also recently exhibited in Houston and sold a fine wool lamb there.

Ticket Sales For C C Banquet Going Well

Brady Chamber of Commerce reports strong advance sales for its Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet led by George Purcell. The April 1 event in the school cafeteria features Dr. Charles Jarvis as speaker and the Distinguished Service Award presentation with Mary Carter providing Hammond organ entertainment.

State Health Rep Checks Hospital Needs in Brady

A Texas State Board of Health representative will visit Brady on March 25 to assess the need for a new hospital. Hardin Jones, chairman of Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital, says the review of the old facility and proposed site signals possible state funds and improved prospects for a new hospital.

Bloodmobile to Visit Brady on Tuesday March 23

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ in Brady from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Officials reported past drives yielded 138 pints and 102 pints, noting ongoing high demand and generosity from Brady and McCulloch County residents. A May 25 return is planned in this fiscal year.

Tax Office Extends Hours For 1971 License Plates

McCulloch County tax assessor Vernon Waddill Jr says the tax office will be open until noon on March 20 and 27 to help residents purchase 1971 license plates. The extra Saturday hours target those who cannot visit during weekdays.

A&M Sociologist To Talk To Lions

Reagan V. Brown of the Agri cultural Extension Service at Texas A&M University will address the Brady Lions Club on March 25. He will then speak to the Brady High School Science Club at 5 30 p m and to the East Sweden Community organization at 7 30 p m. Brown is a renowned community development expert and leader in the Texas Community Improvement Program funded by electric utilities.

Weather Still Topic With Co Agen

Weather remains the topic in Heart of Texas as farmers report scarce moisture since January. Only 1.16 inches of rain this year hampers oat and wheat crops while high winds and dust storms fail to help. Last winter was mild with 4.30 inches in Brady and 18.04 total for the year, and fruit trees begin to bloom as Easter nears.

Reynolds Bags 19 Pounds of Bass in Brady Lake Catch

Brady Schools Supt C A Reynolds bragged of four black bass caught at Brady Lake with the Wooly googer bait. The four fish weighed 19 1/4 pounds total, largest at 7 3/4 pounds. Partners declined to be named.
