Brady High Students See Danger of Speed in Braking Demo
Brady High School students watched a Texas Highway Patrol braking demonstration on Wall Street. Officers Geestin Matthews and Brookshire showed stopping distances at 20 40 and 30 mph with a gun signal and two yellow marks marking reaction and braking distances. Results varied by driver with notable figures: 36 ft 8 in at 20 mph rising to 122 ft 11 in at 40 mph for male drivers and 40 ft total at 20 mph for Diane Roddie. Principal Ethridge noted conditions affect stopping distances and real roads may require longer distances.
