Retired Brady Mail Carrier J A Doshier Dies at 78
James Arthur Doshier 78, born in Illinois June 10 1876, died at his Brady home 900 South Walnut Street. He moved to Texas in 1911, lived in Brady since 1920, and carried mail between Brady and Hext for 12 years. He married Minnie Shaver in 1920. Survived by wife, two adopted daughters, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Funeral held at Wilkerson Chapel with burial in Brady Cemetery.

VA Prefs Arrive From A&M For Two Weeks Work
Corky Pence a Brady High School alumnus and Harold Schwerter of San Angelo arrived Monday to begin two weeks of work with Brady High School's vocational agriculture department. They are Texas A&M students training to be VA teachers under ag teacher John Holcomb. Brady's ag department is among 30 chosen by A&M as outstanding in Texas to assist training.

Retired Lohn Doctor Will Be 84 Saturday
Dr William M Land of Lohn recently retired from practice after a long career as family physician and neighbor. Born March 12 1871 in Alabama he will celebrate his 84th birthday on Saturday. He survived a childhood hand injury and studied at Birmingham and Tulane before moving to Texas in 1900 to open an office in Taylor.

Plan to vaccinate 470 McCulloch County children for polio
County health officer Dr. James P. Anderson outlines a plan to immunize 470 first and second graders if a polio vaccine is licensed in April. The vaccine, provided by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, may also reach others via physicians. Results from a Michigan study due in April will determine effectiveness. If licensed, vaccination would start promptly to finish before school close and polio season begins, marking the first use of a new preventive measure.

William Strickland of Brady 4 H Club and McCulloch County’s Gold Star Boy won top awards at the Austin Livestock Show last week. In the open show on March 2 he captured champion and reserve champion Rambouillet ram and ewe classes, with multiple high placings across ram lambs and ewe lambs. Slim Arrested in Gainesville in Veterans Land Conspiracy Case
Brady resident B R Slim Sheffield was arrested in Gainesville around 1 50 p m en route to Austin. He was sought since a Travis County grand jury indicted him and former Land Commissioner Bascom Giles on conspiracy to commit theft of 855 00 in the veterans land program. DPS agents and internal security officers made the arrest with Sheffield’s attorney present.
