Brady attorney Aubrey Davee and his son Bob have formed a law partnership named Davee and Davee. They plan to practice in all local courts including probate and district courts with Bob serving as office secretary for probate matters.
Library officials appeal for reader input to guide purchases at the F. M. Richards Library. The book committee asks residents to mail titles they want read, especially noting children’s books, during Library Week.
Brady Bulldogs trackmen, fifth place winners at Brady Relays last weekend, travel to Taylor for the Cotton Boll Relays. The Bulldogs defend their Taylor tournament title as four-year-olds champions.
Colorado City residents Frank and Frances Derigibus survived a crash that killed four others including Paul Lawlis Robert Kirschbaum and Goodwin Simpson near Monterrey Mexico. Derigibus believes fog and a misjudged turn caused the collision while Simpson's plane crashed minutes later. Mrs Simpson survived in critical condition.
The northwest McCulloch County oil region will see two additional wildcat tests. H G Watson and co. of San Antonio seek Railroad Commission approval to drill a 2900 foot rotary well No 1 A Roy Moore et al two miles east of Salt Gap on a 572 acre lease. The second proposal by Heart of Texas Exploration Co of Big Spring aims for a 2500 foot rotary well No 1 J L Cox on a 160 acre lease, northwest of the Harry Odom No 1 well.
Brady Schools will be closed Friday to allow teachers to attend a district meeting in San Ange. The closure affects all students and staff as district officials Convene to discuss shared goals and educational plans.
Brady banks posted a modest $56,091 increase in deposits this week as drought years of decline eased. Loans rose by 31 percent year over year, up $508,881, driven by ranchers restocking and farmers preparing new crops. Brady National Bank and Commercial National Bank figures show deposits and loan growth year over year with March 1957 and March 1958 comparisons.
The Chamber of Commerce announces its annual membership meeting on Thursday April 10 at the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church. Jack Lawrence of Texas Trust Company will headline as speaker with others to be announced. Five new directors will be named and the 12th Distinguished Service Award will be presented to a Brady McCulloch County area figure. Nominees for the board were 30 p.m. March 21 for mail ballot voting by chamber members.
The Brady unit reports 7800 boxes sold in nine days across Heart of Texas Council. Proceeds fund troop activities and Camp Wood Lake improvements. Awards honored top sellers and 20+ box earners with Troop Awards and Friendship Pins in an April event.
Brady High School juniors present the three act comedy Cookies Capers on Friday at 7 30 in the auditorium. The play follows the Countess de Beamont returning from France to the haunted Ravenwood mansion as professor Rex Truesdale and his children move in. A host of suitors, comic acts, and a hypnotist fuel the campus capers. Directed by Miss Laurie Barfoot with a large cast including George Rose Reynold Carlson Brenda Schaeg Charlene Brown Edlin Hahn and more.
Glen D. Randolph of Cherokee joined the race for state representative in District 74 which covers McCulloch San Saba Lampasas Gillespie Llano and Burnet Counties. Terry Townsend of Brady and Wilbur Allen of Bertram were the first two entrants, Randolph’s formal announcement appears on page 9 today.
Abilene resident Willoughby Craddock spent Thursday and Friday in Brady on business. Craddock serves as an auditor for Magnolia Petroleum Company.
Receipts at the Brady post office for the period ending March 7 totaled 3133.97 dollars, up from 2858 dollars in the prior year’s first period and below last year’s 3427.52 dollars. The March period shows growth over the previous period.
Cox Cemetery near Mercury will hold a working on Tuesday March 18. KB Beakley secretary announced. Those with relatives buried there are invited to participate.
