Brady Texas city council opened bids for a fully equipped fire truck ranging from 22 995 to 37 239 with some bids for truck only or equipment only Council postponed action to study bids and prepared to consider options.
The classroom portion runs from 4 15 to 6 15 p m starting May 8 and ends May 29 requiring 32 hours. The first 35 to sign up are admitted. Kenneth Mitchell confirms 18 have signed up. A $25 lab fee applies. Enrollees must be 15. Call Supt Mitchell at Rochelle School.
Lynn G. Passmore of Texas Tech University College of Engineering earned scholastic honors for fall 1971. Son of Mr and Mrs Lindsay Passmore he was named to the Dean's List for the semester.
San Angelo on Tuesday voted to exercise an option to purchase water rights from the Ford Ranch on the Hickory formation under G Rollie White Estate lands. The deal covers land in McCulloch Menard and Concho counties with a potential 21 million gallons daily pump and a 55 mile pipeline planned for the 1980s. Brady residents fear a lowered water table might affect their six Brady wells.
Twenty four high school squads converge on the Brady Municipal Golf Course for a two division Schoolboy Invitational. Division I features AAA and AAAA schools led by defending champion Crockett of Austin with Stephen F. Austin and Reagan high finishing strong last year. Division II includes AA and A schools led by Iraan Bastrop and Caldwell. Coach Paul Huntington predicts Crockett and Kerrville Troy as top contenders in Division I while Iraan Bastrop and Llano loom in Division II.
Lt Gov Ben Barnes will be the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Ladies Night Banquet in Brady. A reception precedes the event at 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Brady Housing Community Center, with another reception 7 to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Family of Nancy Barnes travels from San Angelo, with out of town guests from Abilene, Brownwood, San Angelo, Coleman and Sweetwater. Local officials and church leaders participate in invocation, pledges, introductions and benediction.
The Rochelle Community Men’s Club banquet will be held Monday at 7 30 p.m. in the Rochelle School lunch room. Sponsored by the Junior Class, tickets cost 1 50 per person with free babysitters. Tickets are sold by Junior Class members or at the door. No speaker but a talent show will provide entertainment.
Members of the Texas State Department of Health board will meet in Austin Sunday to consider a grant for the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. The hospital recently secured a loan for new construction and the grant would significantly improve its financial position.
Judge George says underground water districts are needed in McCulloch County to block salt water intrusion and protect the Hickory sand formation. Local leaders plan a trip to Austin to seek steps for a countywide district covering McCulloch Mason Menard San Angelo and Concho areas amid new water legislation.
Seventeen McCulloch County 4 H members show lambs and steers at the San Angelo Livestock Show this week. Participants include Calvin Menzies Irby McWilliams Fritz Elizabeth Hext Melanie Tamye Lisa Weaver Cynthia Terry Whitworth Deborah Teresa Charlotte Matthisen Donald Karlene Sheryl Kiesling. Four members compete in the Beef Calf Scramble Friday during the rodeo.
Leslie Armstrong of Dallas and his mother Mrs L J Armstrong spent two weeks touring Del Rio and Amistead Lake area with friends. They raised flowers and enjoyed a cookout with Gene Appleton family and visited Langtry and Fort Stockton. They noted strong winds hampering fishing and urged readers to try the Texas Frontier package.
