Deadline Near For Summer Paving Jobs

City Supt. James Feazelle reminded residents to submit names by April 1 to pave next summer. Costs include concrete curb and gutter 1.50 per foot, twocourse rock asphalt 70 cents per foot per property owner each side, 1 cent for 40foot streets, and 81 cents for 50foot streets. Projects must cover at least a block and join existing paving with blocks funded by property owners or financed by the city over one to three years.

C-C Members Elect Five New Directors

Five new directors for the Chamber of Commerce were elected by mail ballots on Wednesday night. The winners are Frank Lohn, R. & Moseley of Rochelle, Lewis Jordan, Forrest Barron, and Ben Davis Geeslin. They begin three-year terms April 1, joining ten holdovers.

Council Hires New Policeman and OKs Paving

The City Council hired O. D. McMillan as a police and meter maintenance worker. Magnolia Street paving from the scouring plant to East 11th Street was authorized. L. V. McCartney was hired as dog catcher for two months. James Feazelle and Johnny Williams will attend a water works school at Texas A&M. Brady banks designated as city depositors starting May 1, with accounts split between them.

Rochelle Boys Compete in Calf Scramble at Rodeo

Seven Rochelle boys entered in the calf scramble at the San Angelo Rodeo. In the matinee at 2 pm are Mike Thompson Nicky Neal and Butch Lemke. The 8 pm show features Junior Booker Bobby Deeds Joey Ranne and Ronnie Mohr.

Two More Seek Brady School Board Seats

Wednesday was the filing deadline for Brady School Board candidates. New entrants include Mrs. E B Kyzar of Calf Creek and Don Ray Jordan of Voca stock farm. If elected Mrs. Kyzar would be the first woman to serve on the board, joining incumbents Wayne Rawlings and R F Hob Carmichael who also seek re-election.

Scouts Attend Church in Uniform for Girl Scout Sunday

Welding Courses Begin Monday in Brady School District

An electric and oxyacetylene welding school will start Monday night in Brady. Sponsored by the Brady High Vocational Agriculture Department, the 20 hour course costs $6.50 per person for welding rods, oxygen and acetylene. Instructors are E L Ross and Guy Siler. The class is part of the adult education program.

Tommy Potter 20 Dies After Brain Tumor Surgery

Relatives in Melvin mourn the death of Tommy Potter age 20 son of Col and Mrs Nolen L Potter of Jacksonville Arkansas. He died after brain tumor surgery conducted two weeks earlier at a Little Rock hospital. He was a great nephew of the VY Middletons and the Virgil Potters of Melvin.

Bloodmobile Tops Quota 74 Pints in Brady Visit

The Red Cross Bloodmobile collected 74 pints of blood from donors last week, exceeding a 70 pint goal though 28 pints short for this fiscal year. Mrs. Howard Salter notes strong turnout and the next visit is scheduled for April 29.

13 Get Free Federal Poll Taxes Issued in County

Only 13 of the free feder al poll taxes have been issued by County Tax Assessor-Collector John Guice. Friday is the last day they will be available. The taxes cover voting in federal elections for president, vice president, U S senator, and U S congressman. In McCulloch County 2,164 persons paid $1.75 for their regular poll taxes before the Jan 31 deadline.

Marching Contest Opens Show Friday at Heart O Texas Festival

More than 1,000 high school bandsmen descend on Brady for the 16th Heart O Texas Band Festival. Six out-of-town bands compete in a Friday marching contest at Bulldog Stadium, with a sock hop later. Saturday features a morning concert and a 2:45 pm North Texas University Concert Band performance, followed by a 1:30 pm massed parade and awards by Supt Reynolds. Tickets for Friday are 50 cents adults, 25 cents students.

Riders Headed to San Angelo for Spring Parade

The Heart of Texas Riders travel to San Angelo Friday for their first spring parade at 9 a.m. They will lunch with the Martin County Range Riders of Stanton at noon, then join the San Angelo Rodeo grand entry at 2 p.m. A Friday barbecue at Lake View School is planned by the San Angelo Riding Club. Horses sent by truck should arrive at the Heart of Texas Commission Co. by 6:30 a.m.

Non-Registered Horses Invited In Youth Classes

Two performance classes for non registered horses are added in the youth division of the Brady Quarter Horse Show on Friday April 3 at Jubilee Arena. Non registered horses will be judged in pole bending and western pleasure with an all around youth trophy and ribbons. Youths through 18 may show their registered horses in the approved show.

Bishop Everett H. Jones to Speak at Brady Honor Banquet

The Rt. Rev. Everett H. Jones will address Brady High School honor students at the fifth annual Scholarship Awards Banquet. The event, sponsored by the Brady Lions Club, is set for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church fellowship hall. Jones, a native of San Antonio and bishop of the West Texas Episcopal Diocese, studied at UT and Columbia, and served as rector in Cuero Waco and San Antonio.
