Brady residents endure 100 degree heat for the eighth consecutive day as temperatures push past the century mark each afternoon. Crops burn and brown grass grows. town watering is cut back due to ongoing power generation issues at the light plant. Power outages hit the north and south sides again as June records remain out of reach.

Governor Smith mobilizes Guard for July Fourth traffic safety

Gov Preston Smith announces Texas National Guard will aid the Department of Public Safety in a 12 county Dallas Fort Worth area during the Fourth of July weekend. Guardsmen will support traffic safety but will not have arrest or law enforcement powers. He cites rising holiday traffic toll and urges all resources be used to reduce tragedy.

Archer Team Wins Tourney at Brady Municipal Golf Course

Archer's squad led by Bob Archer shot a nine under par 62 to win the monthly bully gully golf tournament at Brady Municipal Golf Course. They finished one stroke ahead of Atherton and Wilson teams tied at 63. Atherton’s foursome won a sudden death playoff on the second hole. Wilson’s team placed third with 17 teams competing.

Brady Ladies Play In Llano Golf Tourney

Mrs. Jack Wootan and Mrs. Richard Winters traveled to Llano Tuesday for the Llano Ladies Golf Tournament. Winters tied for second with Mrs. Lou Roach of Buchanan Dam. In a sudden death playoff Roach took second on the sixth hole. Winters finished third. Wootan won the longest drive contest.

Pageant Officially Kicks Off Jubilee in Brady

The Miss Heart O Texas Pageant opens the July Jubilee in Brady at 8 30 p m Friday with eighteen county contestants. Out of town judges brunch Friday morning and final judging during the program. Queen’s float rides in Saturday parade.

TADA Names Curtis Norman as Area Director

Curtis Norman, Brady Ford dealer, is appointed to a one year term as Area Director of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association. He will report to the TADA Board on motor vehicle buying public issues in the Brady area and work with legislative officials. TADA President John N. Cleveland says the role is crucial and Norman will serve with distinction.

Brady Jaycees Sponsor Dance for July Jubilee

The Brady Jaycees join the July Jubilee with parade participation and car parking at the race track. They sponsor a dance Monday night at the National Guard Armory starting 8 30 p.m. Advance tickets are $3 50 per couple $2 stag with KNEL Radio Colonial Food Stores selling them. Door price is $4 per couple $2 50 stag. Music by Wanda Allred and the Country Strings.

Western Trail Drive Goes Through Brady

The Circle 5 North Cattle Drive starts July 1 in San Antonio and follows the Old Western Trail via Highway 87 to Brady and then Highway 283 to Dodge City. The event revives a route last used in 1886 with drovers, cattle, horses, and wagons in authentic dress directed by Dick Tandy and Tom Dooley from Bluebonnet Ranch near San Antonio.
