Campaign Rally Slated Saturday in Bulldog Stadium

A large campaign rally is planned for Saturday at 7 30 in Bulldog Stadium where 22 Miss Heart of Texas nominees and their managers will urge voters to back their proteges. Rev Lamar Leifeste will host with speeches skits and campaign antics expected. Beta Sigma Phi and the Coronation Pageant sponsor the event. Miss Heart of Texas will be named during the July 1 coronation and pageant followed by a parade float appearance on July Jubilee day July 2 at 10 am.

Bill Hames Jubilee Show Opens at Richards Park

The Jubilee celebration begins Monday June 28 at Richards Park with the Bill Hames shows and rides. Mary Helen Brown and son Buster travel from Fort Worth to headline along with familiar family management following De Bill's passing. The Hames organization remains a major draw for the Jubilee entertainment lineup this year.

John Henry Low 96 dies at daughter's home in Lamesa

John Henry Low aged 96 died around p.m. Tuesday at his daughter’s home after living in Lamesa ten months, formerly a Menard County rancher. He leaves a wife, seven daughters, four sons, a sister, 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at Mission Funeral Home Chapel Menard with burial Resthaven Cemetery Menard.

Bradyite's Brother Dies At Harlingen

Ralph W. Armstrong age 59 brother of L. J. Armstrong of Brady died June 15 at Valley Baptist Hospital Harlingen. Graveside rites were by Harlingen Elks Lodge at Restlawn Cemetery. A noted sportsman he active in civic affairs and a past Life Begins at 40 Golf Tournament director. Survivors include wife Millie Armstrong mother Mrs W E Armstrong four sisters and two brothers.

McCulloch County OKs Air Conditioners and Road Machinery

Eight county offices will be air conditioned under a contract to General Electric Service Center for 2247 dollars. City Electric wins wiring with 595 dollars. Road work equipment from Treanor Equipment Co. costs 23000 dollars. The court authorizes 20000 dollars in time warrants dated May 10 1965 and approves four deputies for the July Jubilee. Deputy county clerk Mabel Sloane replaces Sue Nowlin effective July 2.

The Brady Bulldog Band will practice Tuesday June 29 at 7 30 p m at the Band Hall. Members are urged to attend as the band prepares for the July Jubilee parade on July 2.

Water Show Promises Color and Thrills at Carnival

The weekly water carnival features crocodile display from Alligator Gardens in San Antonio, leopard swimsuits for precision swimmers, and nine named swimmers plus two divers from San Angelo. Texas Tech and UT students join 230 participants. ribbons for all, medals for winners, with James Mallow’s band and Joyce Marsden performances. Admission is free at 7:50 PM Monday.

Grain Crop Harvest Yields Mixed Across County

County Agent Kuykendall reports small grain yields were uneven this spring. Oats averaged 30 to 35 bushels per acre while wheat ranged 12 to 16 with some up to 25. Rust resistant Caddo wheat performed well and May rains boosted grazing value. Howard Bloomer harvested 25 bushels per acre of rust resistant wheat.

Hill Country Flooding and Brady Rain Totals Reported

A heavy rainstorm drenched the Hill Country with up to nine inches causing flash flooding in Kerrville and Fredericksburg where streets flooded and businesses closed. In Brady the rainfall reached 2.70 inches at some farms and 1.60 inches at the weather observer’s site, with widespread totals across McCulloch County and surrounding areas.

Bloodmobile coming to McCulloch County seeks 70 pints

Red Cross urges volunteers to donate on June 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The drive aims to meet a 70 pint quota for the fiscal year end, with emphasis on past and new donors from all walks of life.

12 year old Eubank killed in Waco scooter crash

Jay Dale Eubank, 12, son of Maj. and Mrs. J. D. Eubank of Waco, died Wednesday after a motor scooter collision with a car at 2 15 PM. A friend was injured lightly. Funeral services are set for Connally Air Base Friday at 10 AM with a Brady graveside at 3 30 PM.

Box seats for Jubilee races go on sale now

Box seats for the Jubilee races are on sale through Gene Samuelson at 597 2456 or 597 2236 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular holders must claim by Friday, June 25 or lose seats. Brady Lions Club sponsors Jubilee box sales for the July 2 3 4 meet, with option for three days or single days.

Housing Authority Starts Appraisals in Brady Project

The Housing Authority of Brady authorized appraisals on three of four sites for a low cost housing project. FHA approval of the fourth site is pending a minor technicality. The plan calls for 90 duplex units, 80 for elderly residents and 10 for low income tenants, with Fitch and Holcomb of Houston handling preliminary work.
