Bids Opened on Melvin and Doole-to-Stacy Highway Projects
The State Highway Commission opened bids on two McCulloch County projects, one at Melvin and another for the Doole to Stacy road paving. D. H. Buchanan Construction of Temple was the low bidder at 187,468 dollars. Construction begins in about two weeks. The Melvin project adds seven miles of new road from the Melvin square to US 87 and includes a high water bridge over Brady Creek to prevent isolation during floods.

Mrs Herbert Mooring Dies in California
Mrs Herbert Mooring died Wednesday June 4 in Bakersfield California where her burial occurred June 7. She is survived by her husband of 1903 Cherry St Bakersfield a stepdaughter Mrs Norman Kelly of Los Angeles parents Mr and Mrs C E Boydstun and brother J E Boydstun all of Bakersfield. Mr Mooring was raised in Rochelle and lived in Brady until about 13 years ago when he moved to Bakersfield.

Heart of Texas Marker Erected at Brady Courthouse
The Heart of Texas marker was placed on the south side of Brady’s courthouse plaza this week attracting sightseers. Earl Finley and Pready Monument Works finished the job late Tuesday. The gray stone Texas map on red granite base features a bright red heart and reads Heart of Texas Brady. The project was a joint effort of the Chamber of Commerce highway committee funded by the city and county.
