Plateau Motel Sold to Rutherford Family

Mr and Mrs A R Rutherford and son Rodney formerly of Brady announce the purchase of the Plateau Motel and Restaurant on US Highway 87 South from J B Hicks and Johnny Miller. Laura Sayles will continue as manager for 17 years and Rodney will run the restaurant. The couple plan an expansion adding 12 to 25 units and remodeling existing facilities.

Blood Drive Reaches 65 Units In Brady Visit

Brady Red Cross Bloodmobile collected 65 units with five first time donors and five multi gallon donors. Officials say McCulloch County nears its 1977 goal as another visit is planned for Oct. 11 to push toward 100 percent.

Teepees Rise as Brady Hosts State Muzzle Loading Shoot

Members of the Texas Muzzle Loading Rifle Association set up tents campers and four teepees on Brady Lake range hillside for the State Championship Shoot at Brady Lake Gun Range. Over 100 early registrants arrived Wednesday and many more are expected as antique gun buffs from across Texas and beyond gather to compete. Mr and Mrs Gene Briscoe and family attended on Wednesday.

Brady seeks HUD grant for city development plan

Brady's application for a 242500 community development grant has been accepted for processing by HUD. Harold Underwood, assistant to the city superintendent, said he expects approval and noted three months of preparation and public hearing suggestions from March and October. The plan covers housing, streets, drainage, parks, sewers, and picnic facilities and play areas.

Free Immunization Clinic For Pre-School Children

A free immunization clinic for all pre schoolers will be held at South Ward Elementary School auditorium from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 3 pm on Wednesday. DPT polio measles and rubella shots will be given to un immunized children upon request.

Adair Takes City Hall Post in Brady

Barry Lee Adair, a San Marcos native and Baylor graduate, will start as Brady’s city superintendent Thursday. He comes from Cedar Park where he was city administrator and tax assessor collector, succeeding Jim Feazelle who resigned. A weekend costume judging event invites public participation with prizes for best dressed individuals and families.

Brady Raises City Tax Rate to 1.50 for This Year

The Brady City Council voted to raise the city tax rate from 1.30 to 1.50, effective with this year’s taxes due October 1. The 30 percent assessment remains, and the city expects about $150,000 in revenue, up from $130,000, aided by higher natural gas costs affecting city finances.
