Turks Tour Brady Area To Learn McCulloch County Life

Fifteen agricultural leaders from the East visited Brady Monday, touring the courthouse and wool scouring plant. County Agent Jimmy Cusenbary and Harry Naylor answered questions about farming, land ownership, and sharecropping as interpreters assisted the visitors. The Turks, well educated in the United States, asked about wool sources and U.S. production, while locals shared hospitality and stories of West Texas life.

Brady School Adopts New Student Insurance Plan

Brady School Board approves a voluntary student insurance plan for fall at $2 per student, covering medical and hospital costs up to $3,000 per accident during school hours and activities. Football players receive school-paid coverage at $6 each, up to $540. The board also designates Brady National Bank as funds depository, buys blanket bond, and names Fred Bryant as school auditor.

Water Carnival Saturday Night at City Pool

The annual Water Carnival unfolds Saturday at 7 30 p m with contestants gathering by 7 p m Johnny Rudder hosts a watermelon scramble for high school age boys a pajama race a balloon race exhibitions in diving and swimming and races for each age group All participants are from the summer swimming classes directed by K Y Owens with assistance from Jerry Sessom and Forrest Hanson Nearly 200 youngsters attended and will join the carnival as it closes eight weeks of free lessons The pool remains open for paid swimmers through August daily 1 to 5 pm and Sundays 2 to 6 pm

A local report notes Brady's afternoon shower yielding 1.12 inches, the best since a month. Year to date rainfall reaches 21.12 inches, nearing the 24 inch annual average, with most rain falling in April and May and July figures listed.

Notary Executive to Speak Tuesday To Brady Club

Dr. John G. Flowers of San Marcos governor of District S84 of Rotary International will speak at Brady Rotary Club at noon next Tuesday. A 20 year Rotary member he has presided over Southwest Texas State Teachers College and held posts at East Texas State, Northwestern, and NYU. He led Lock Haven State Teachers College and since 1942 has been president of Southwest Texas State. He earned a doctorate at Columbia and has long studied religion in education. Born in Karnes County Texas he spent most of his career as an educator in the state.

Defense calls only one witness in Brouillette murder trial

The 35th District Court in Coleman heard closing defense as Walter Roy Brouillette faced a jury with a single witness, Sheriff Luke Vogel, who testified about locating a .22 cartridge box near the Ottes' Fife home. The defense rested on the state to prove guilt.

Water Use Exceeds 100 Million Gallons in Month

Brady residents consumed over 100 million gallons of water during June 20 to July 20, averaging about 5.334 million gallons daily, below the previous year’s 3.62 million daily. The power plant generated 1,607,900 kilowatts, up 600 kilowatts from the year before, marking the first rise in seven months.

Duchess Jan Harvey to crown Miss Mohair at Fredericksburg event

Brady High School senior Jan Harvey named to represent the July Jubilee at the Miss Mohair coronation in Fredericksburg on Aug 1 in the Exhibition Hall of the Fair Grounds. Ball Leagues Merge Into Sum mer Recreation Baseball Program

Tuesday night the Ball Leagues merged into a single Summer Recreation Baseball Program with Hunter Ables elected director. Each league retains its own president: Dr W V Olin Little League John Shurtleff Pony League and S P Tomlinson Jr Teen Aged League Leonard Atherton serves as secretary treasurer.
