In Brady 44 people inquired about benefits on Tuesday with 14 filing claims. Legislation now allows men under 65 to share Social Security benefits and other amendments were noted by field rep Neil Tarvin. The crowd marked the largest since 1956 when farmers gained program access.
Debra Kay Hartrick a 20 month old girl from Brady is at John Sealy Hospital Galveston awaiting skin grafts after a burn suffered when she turned on hot water in the home lavatory three weeks ago. Her parents O D McMillan Brady neighbors report grafts to begin early next week and say no grafts will be needed on the soles of her feet. The family thanks friends and neighbors for support.
Wilson Jordan of Brady, a wool dealer and ice plant operator, credits his memory for names as a valued skill learned from his father. He recalls his father’s exceptional feats with numbers and dates, memorizing cattle drives and prices without writing them down, though names were harder for him to recall.
The City Council authorized a survey of Prady's water and sewer systems to create a master plan for improvements and expansion. The plan aims to connect the water system with Brady Lake, possibly building a lake-site filtering plant, and to forecast future needs, storage, and fire protection.
The Brady Theater has installed a stereophonic sound system and new speaker and projection equipment, announced theater manager Kay Gaywood. Painting and redecoration are underway with further improvements planned.
Four spinner type wheel covers were removed from a 1958 Mercury Monterey on Jack Chandler's used car lot at First and Bridge Streets. Thieves tore out valve stems, leaving tires flat. Chandler estimates each cover at $50 and notes a prior theft from the same car months earlier.
An Angus bull valued at about 700 dollars was killed when it was struck by a motorist at 11 30 Tuesday night near Calf Creek. The driver Elby Brannon Jones Jr of San Angelo escaped injury. his car sustained about 200 dollars in damages. The bull had escaped a pasture and wandered onto the highway as Jones was traveling toward Brady.
The Rochelle Lions Club will play its Pony League team in a 3 p m game at Rochelle High School field. The event pairs club members against teenage players in a local Sunday matchup.
Band director James Mallow calls all freshman band students to report to the high school band hall at 9 a m Monday for membership tests in the Bull dog Band. Summer practice runs 9 a m to school start, Aug 7 to Aug 28 with a break Aug 16 to 18 for a Garner State Park camp.
