Republican Byron Fullerton, 47, UT Law assistant dean on leave, visited Brady and McCulloch County to meet voters. He spoke against marijuana penalties and campus unrest, urging strict enforcement and expulsion of disruptive students, as organized by McCulloch County GOP chairman James Walton.
Mr and Mrs Jack White of Odessa spent the weekend in Brady visiting the Ben L Whites. Dr Ben White and his wife joined the Brady gathering to attend the 1940 class graduation reunion.
Vacation Bible School at Walnut Street Baptist Church will begin at 8 a.m. on July 13. All children are invited to attend.
The Brady City Council discussed traffic problem spots. E. M. Pritchard requested a traffic study of US 87 in Brady and nearby FM 42. An on site inspection of US 87 with FM 42 and nearby streets was conducted. The THD noted that the US 87 and Farm Road 42 intersection is under reconstruction and awaiting final conditions.
The Brady Independent School District board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Gerald Huffman special education teacher at its regular meeting. It set Aug 17 at 7 30 p m for a district budget hearing and awarded a low bid of 401 39 for Greenbriar property. The trustees rewrote the school property and insurance program saving about 3000 over three years and reviewed the tentative 1970 71 budget and June financials. City traffic concerns included updating signals at US 87 intersections and speed enforcement along US 87 with a radar unit recommended by the Grand Jury.
Gartmans marks its 50th anniversary with a store wide sale from July 10 to July 24 offering six big prizes. No purchase or presence required. First drawing set for Monday July 20 at 3 p.m. The Brady store, opened in 1919, also runs a pioneering butane business and carries Whirlpool appliances Roper ranges and Dearborn room coolers.
