Veterans of World War I Granted Congressional Charter
In 1958 the House approved H R 11077 by 389 to 2 and the Senate voted favorably. President signed Public Law 85 530 on July 18 1958 to incorporate the Veterans of World War I of the United States of America. The charter outlines patriotic, fraternal, historic and educational aims, including mutual benefit, preservation of WWI memory, support for veterans and widows, and defense of American ideals and security. Seven men organized 60 local barracks and pursued the charter through Ohio authorities and state action through 1953.
