The 17th annual Melvin FFA Fat Stock Show will be held Saturday February 1 on the Melvin square. Judge Lewis Bridges of Eden, in his first year as FFA advisor, will evaluate only fat calves and lambs. Judging starts at 1 p.m. All McCulloch 4-H Club members in the Melvin district may enter. donations for prize money are invited via Lonnie Parks or Woodrow Hall.

Punchard Given 95 Year Term
Buster Punchard a 42 year old Brady Negro was found guilty of murder with malice and given a 95 year sentence. The jury reached its verdict at 5 p m after being out since noon. Punchard had a prior prison record of five terms and was charged in the fatal shooting of John Earls 46 at a Negro safe last September. Defense lawyers sought to show Earls had threatened Punchard. McCulloch and the Heart of Texas area received a soaking rain from Wednesday night into Thursday. Brady reports 1.2 inches by 2 p.m. Thursday as drizzle began late Wednesday afternoon and continued intermittently, with steady rain through Thursday morning. Farmers anticipate a strong planting season. county agent Jimmy Casenbary calls it the wettest and best season in many winters.

City Nears Land Purchase for U S 87 Widening

Poll taxes lag as 1135 sold in McCulloch County
