Sister of Bradyite Dies in San Antonio

Mrs. Mary Belle Deese 62 of San Antonio and sister of Ernest Morgeson of Brady died January 6. Funeral services were held January 8 at Roy Akers Funeral Chapel with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. She had lived in San Antonio 23 years and was a Methodist. Survivors include her husband M Sgt Van W Deese Ret, two brothers Ernest Morgeson Brady and John Morgeson Crane, two sisters Mildred Morgeson San Antonio and Mrs Dave Hill Irving, a niece and three nephews.

Brady Couples To Super Bowl In Miami Flight

Mr and Mrs M Breckenridge and Mr and Mrs Howard Creamer of Brady plan to leave after school Friday for Miami to attend the fifth annual Super Bowl Sunday at the Orange Bowl. The Colts play the Cowboys with Tommy Maxwell, son in law of the Breckenridges, among the attendees.

Bloodmobile to Visit Brady for National Blood Donor Month

Bloodmobile arrives in Brady Tuesday January 19 at the Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ. Local chair W L McDowell urges McCulloch County citizens to donate, noting a record 128 pints collected previously and stressing pledge cards and designated donations to aid the Brady blood drive.

Brady Students Win Places In Region Band at Tryouts

Eight Brady Bulldog Band members earned spots on the Region VII all region band at Brownwood tryouts. Placing in the 95 piece concert band were Peggy Scott Denise Purcell Kerry Quick Donna Neal Nona Neal Albert Pearson Sharon Straley and Darrell Huffman. Remaining placers include Dan Dahlberg Anne Moseley Debbie Mc Anally Hays Beam and Ben McCulloh. The eight advance to Austin area tryouts January 23 with about 475 peers competing. Director James Mallow praised the high showing and UT Austin clinician Dr. William Moody led the session.

Commissioners Vote To Unite With CVCO

The County Commissioners Court approved joining the Concho Valley Council of Governments alongside the City of Brady. Appointments remained unchanged, with Perry Nelson, Gene Samuelson, Dr. James Anderson, and Joe Ogden named to county posts. Budget actions set road fund shares, kept personal property tax, and set the tax rate at 1.25 per hundred.

Four-H FFA Stock Show Draws Local Business Support

Over 104 contributors back the Brady 4-H and FFA junior livestock show at Richards Park. About 200 animals expected. events include fat steer, heifer, lamb, and swine divisions with judging by Clyde Woerner of Georgetown. Lambs arrive Friday 4 8 pm. hogs and calves accepted until 8 am show day.

Brady Chamber of Commerce approves five holidays for 1971

The Brady Chamber of Commerce board approves five holidays for 1971 New Year’s Day Independence Day Labor Day Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Memorial Day not declared an official holiday due to open banks. A nominating committee selects five new directors to take office after the April 1 banquet. The committee includes Don Neal J G Huffman and John W Jones with Neal as chair. Bill Huffman and Billy Jones announce plans for the 4 H FFA Livestock Show at Richards Park. The group confirms dues and cooperation with the Texas Congressmen’s reception in Washington and retains manager George Purcel with travel expenses covered.

Brady high school beat Marble Falls 94 to 77 to pull within one game of the league lead in District 39 AA open action. Willie Jones led Brady with 26 points as teammates Penn and Lott added double figures and Randell totaled 33 for Marble Falls.
