The 900 foot VoCa Bridge project includes a smaller Tiger Creek bridge and about four miles of new highway. Border Construction Co of Laredo and M E Worrell of Junction are contracted. Work should finish in a little over a year.
Brady community notes celebrate Sandra Barton Brady freshman at UT pictured as the Ranger Girl of the Month in the Texas Ranger University of Texas magazine. The item also notes local pride in Bulldog alums and moves to a new Brady location while recalling old Brady Evening Tribune copies from 1911 found during the move.
Austin Brady School Supt C A Reynolds and coordinator E O Martin planned to attend the Texas Education Agency annual conference on school problems in Austin this Wednesday Thursday and Friday.
Brady High School earned $8,784.25 from five state playoff games, about $5,000 less than last year. Weather travel distance and a second finals trip reduced income. Waco gate was $7,113.50 with 4,012 paid, Brady’s share $3,222.04. Belton Marlin Bellville West Columbia Terrell revenues listed. Regular season income was $10,379.41 with year-end expenses previously about $12,000.
Brady High golf coach C. A. Ethridge will take five players Charles Newlin Ed Carrithers Fred Lawrence Gerald Lemons and Gray Carrithers to San Angelo for a Saturday match. Several others compete locally and about 15 junior golfers showed interest for next season with a full spring schedule listed including trips to Brownwood Abilene Lampasas and San Angelo plus district regional and relay events.
Ann Fullagar, a Lohn High School senior and daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Fullagar, was elected sweetheart of the FFA chapter. She received a jacket bearing her name and the chapter designation.
The City of Brady seeks a successor to Edward Geeslin as superintendent of water and light, streets and sewer departments. Applications must include age education experience references and minimum starting salary and be sent to Mayor D A Harkrider Brady Texas.
The Sunday afternoon event from 2 to 3 o'clock drew a good crowd. The af fair was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Slaughter and Mr. and Mrs. Oris Holloway of Pontotoc, and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Slaughter of Menard.
Brady School Board approves moving two buildings for the vocational agriculture department improvements. E. A. Bishop of Ozona will move the structures for 1650 dollars. Elbert Cobern Brady to build the foundations and reroof for 5160 dollars. Moving the VA shop frees space at Brady High for new classrooms.
Judge A O Newman of the 55th District Court sided with the City of Brady in a damages suit filed by former mayor Earl Rudder. The case, stemming from a September 1956 flood caused by a water turn on at Rudder’s unoccupied Brady home, found no material fact requiring trial and ruled for the city.
The Mothers' Athletic Club will meet Monday night at 7 o clock at Brady High School for an organizational gathering.
Brady welcomes Police Chief Ted Lacey who urges enforcement of stop signs and speed limits after noting widespread violations. He plans a 44 hour police training program, marked patrol cars, safety gear, and a school safety patrol to start next fall pending council support.
City Council authorizes Mayor to seek 18 month extension on Brady Creek water rights. Extension keeps rights from being reassigned while Brady considers a municipal water supply and city engineers assess plans for a creek based lake. Other actions include widening US 87, remodeling City Hall offices, and leasing city land for sewage plant use.
Funeral services pending for J. M. Witcher who died at his Gatesville home after a December heart attack. He is father of Mrs. Dennis Dail of Eden and was connected with McCulloch County Home Demonstration. Brady and Melvin friends mourn her bereavement as Mr. and Mrs. Dail travel to Gatesville.
Brady's 8 inch November snow was photographed and seen by thousands across the U.S. and in London. Images from The Brady Standard circulated via Associated Press to newspapers and TV stations worldwide. Mrs. Margetta Jung of Austin noted the Illustrated London News carried a courthouse snow photo. Henry Bradley and the Dr James Anderson family appeared in multiple pictures with reports reaching Florida.
Brady High School has sent 100 invitations for the 17th Brady Relays the season’s biggest local sports event. The meet runs Saturday March 8 with morning preliminaries and afternoon and night finals. A Country Club golf tournament runs concurrently.
The Men's Fellowship of the First Methodist Church announces the annual football banquet to honor the Brady Bull dogs and the 1957 state Class AA finalists and coaching staff. It will be held in the church social hall on Wednesday night January 22 at 7 o'clock. Tickets cost 1.25 dollars per plate and are on sale. A prominent athletic figure is invited as principal speaker.
Mrs. Holliday has started the annual Brady school census. The count targets children who will be 6 by September 1 and those under 18 by that date. Sept. Reynolds urged patrons to cooperate and answer the door when Holliday calls.
