Brady youths face burglary and forgery cases in district court
Judge Joe Dibrell presided as Robert Nandin 17 of Brady received a two year penitentiary sentence with two year probation for burglary of the Poultry Co operative and John T. Mitchell 20 of Brady got two years with two year probation for passing a forged instrument. Both were represented by appointed counsel Aubrey Davee and Sam McCollum II. Charles Lee Crawley of Big Spring, arraigned with two others for possession of marijuana and methamphetamine, pleaded not guilty and awaits trial. county attorney V Murray Jordan led the state.

Charles Pinson Dies After Illness
Charles Pinson 78 died at 10 p m Wednesday at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A service was held at 3 p m Friday in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel conducted by Bros Hickles and Hutchinson of a San Angelo Church of Christ. Burial pending. He was born in Pontotoc in 1892, married in 1914 in Mason County. Survivors include three daughters Mrs Burley Bradford Austin Mrs Howard Jarrod Fort Wayne Ind and Mrs Charles Martinkus Dallas and a son Byron Howard Pinson Ennis. The Melvin PTA schedule changed to January 14 and February 11 due to basketball games.

Fisher Home Destroyed By Wednesday Fire
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fisher at 1300 block of S College was gutted by fire Wednesday morning. Brady volunteer firefighters arrived about 8 30 am but struggled as a frozen fire plug hampered water supply. A pumper was used to fight the blaze and thaw the plug, with only a few items saved. Fire started in a bathroom and grew before discovery.

McCulloch County Opposes Federal Food Plan Yet Welcomes Setup
McCulloch County Judge K O Ellington says the county can care for needy residents without a large state program though he would not object if the federal plan to distribute food is implemented. He notes county finances are sound, only a few families receive groceries, and most residents are on pension or welfare. Judge Taylor of Dallas says counties are not parties to the suit and the USDA will fund administration if the plan moves forward. The idea has been discussed at commissioners court meetings for 18 months.

Council Adds Proposition To Election Ballot
The City Council approved placing a measure on the April 4 ballot asking whether police chiefs should be elected or appointed. The council also set seven percent interest on a $150000 bond issue, with $1000 denominations and 15 year maturities, pending bond attorney and attorney general approval. Mayor Aubrey Davee named Ralph Micklethwaite and G. W. Davenport to the planning commission. The council considered bids for a lake patrol pickup, approved the final estimate and accepted the new engine at the Brady Light Plant.

Mercury Dips To 10 Degrees In Brady And County
The latest winter blast drove the thermometer to 10 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday mornings in Brady and McCulloch County, with 18 degrees the cold on Monday. Water lines froze and other damage occurred as the coldest stretch of the season persisted. Temperatures rose to 43 degrees on Wednesday but ice in shaded spots did not melt. A slow warming trend with more clouds and continued cold nights is forecast for the week.
