Brady mail carrier F. D. Martin has a three year friendship with Mambo a big black border collie who protects him from attacking dogs on his route. Mambo chases off bite threats calms barking and waits at storage boxes while Martin delivers mail.

New Fire Truck Due but Where Is Room for It

Alderman Hart Fowler told the City Council the fire department expects a new fire truck by January. With four trucks already at the station space is tight even if an older small truck is moved. The joint order by City and County last fall will be city run but could serve county calls. In other actions Oscar Dietz's Country Club ballroom manager position was accepted for resignation and ballroom reservations move to City Hall. Dog licenses expire December 31 and must be renewed by February 1 with two tags per dog. T A Parker discussed faulty electric service on Walter Jordan place north of town. council offered materials for repairs at labor cost. City Supt Feazelle reported progress clearing alleys to allow garbage trucks to use them, noting fences and partly built structures block access and one transformer is in a fenced alley.

Heart of Texas Mining to Build $500000 Voca Brady Sand Plant

The newly organized Heart of Texas Mining Corporation plans a two-site operation with a 24 carloads per day fracturing sand plant at Voca and a processing site in Brady. Eight Fort Worth families will join, with 16 local workers and a small lab staff to analyze sand products.

Pioneer Service Survives Severe Cold Wave Test

Pioneer Natural Gas Company faced its greatest demand for gas during a West Texas cold snap yet met all service needs without curtailment. Record lows reached 11 degrees below zero in Amarillo and zero in Lubbock, while new supply lines and pipeline capacity enabled peak-load handling.

Brady CAP seeks downed plane in multi state search

Five Civil Air Patrol Brady squadron members flew two search planes all day Monday scanning 3,100 square miles across three states for a plane on a Flagstaff to Elgin AFB route. The aircraft was found near Pase with no survivors. Pilots were Major Cecil Striegier Captain Tommy Freckson Lt. M. D. Pinkerton 2nd Lt. Charlie Vinson and senior member John William Hughes.

Christian Faith School Enrolls 77

The first session of the School of Christian Faith opened Sunday evening January 4 with an attendance of 77. Women of the First Christian Church served refreshments. The second session will be at 7 o'clock this Sunday evening at the First Methodist Church. Those who missed the first class can enroll for four more sessions. The school is a cooperative venture of six local churches.

San Antonio Show Boosters Visit Brady Ahead of Event

A San Antonio goodwill group arrives in Brady on Tuesday January 13 at 2 25 p m to invite McCulloch County residents to attend San Antonio's 10th anniversary Stock Show and Rodeo. The event runs February 13 22 at Joe Freeman Coliseum with Dale Robertson headlining and 120000 in premiums including 70000 for livestock.

Dr. D. Ray Lindley executive vice president of Texas Christian University will be the guest minister Sunday at the First Christian Church speaking at 10 45 am. He will attend a 4 pm coffee hour in Fellowship Hall to meet members and friends. Brady School Board Votes to Repair Old Bus

The Brady School Board voted Monday night to repair an old bus for use as a spare and for student activities. The board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Edwy Verner, third grade teacher at South Ward, effective mid term, and approved the December school financial report.

Postal Receipts at Brady Post Office Set 1958 Record

Brady post office receipts totaled 55 595 during 1958, an all‑time high. Postmaster Mrs Barry Francks reports a gain of 1 848 17 over 1957 despite higher postal rates in the latter half of the year. The previous peak was 51 271 in 1954.

Livestock Weighing Scheduled for McCulloch County 4 H and FFA

The second phase of the commercial feeding program for McCulloch County 4 H and FFA youths begins with weighing this Saturday at Heart of Texas Commission Company from 10 a.m. to noon. H D Griffith will grade the animals. Minimum entry requirements are one calf or three hogs or five lambs. Sponsored by the livestock committee of the Chamber of Commerce.

Public Hearing Scheduled on Voca Highway Reroute

A public hearing on rerouting Farm-Market Road 724 to Brady is set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday January 21 at the National Guard Armory under federal highway act 1456. Officials prefer bringing the road to the Y at the south Brady city limit to spur industrial sites and commercial growth south east of Brady near the Santa Fe railroad.
