Texas to screen for cervical cancer in East and West Texas

Texas Health Department will launch a three year screening effort for cancer of the cervix targeting low income women in East and West Texas Regions 3 and 7. A $732 787 grant from the National Cancer Institute funds 24 000 screenings and follow up testing with Pap smears and biopsies. The program aims to detect cancer early when cure rates are high and includes cooperation with M D Anderson Hospital and the Texas Medical Association.
