Holiday memories from ex-Brady residents in San Antonio. Drusilla David son Huffing ton recalls Brady pageants and local history. Col. John M. Kirklin reflects on thirty years in retirement in Alamo City and memories of The Brady Standard staff and wartime era.
McCulloch County recorded 36.25 inches of precipitation in 1974, turning a dry year into a very wet one. U.S. Weather Observer Jean F Williams tracked daily totals, noting rains began April 30 and Brady's 32.96 inches far exceeded the 25.01 inch state average. The year featured four wet months May August September and October, with Brady seeing 56 days at or below 32 degrees and a high of 105 degrees on July 23 and 29.
Prize money is being solicited for the 1975 McCulloch County 4 H and FFA Livestock Show to be held January 18 with co chairmen Dan Miller and Don Neal coordinating gifts through January 10. Entries expected to dip about 10 percent due to feed costs. lambs to Richards Park January 17 4 00 to 8 00 pm hogs and calves by 8 00 am January 18. Show officials include Billy Jones R S Moseley Terry Peavy Clair Whitesell and Mike Whitworth with Miller and Neal handling classes and show order. Estimated donations encouraged through Brady Chamber of Commerce.
Brady High School band director James Mallen announced that the Texas A&M University Symphonic Band will be featured at the Heart O' Texas Band Festival in Brady March 7 8. Joe McMullen conducts and will judge the festival. Debbie McAnally, daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam McAnally, is a member. Invitations will be sent after the holidays.
J. E. Edmiston 80 of Voca died Sunday evening at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Jamie Hempill officiating. Burial followed in Rest Haven Cemetery. Born October 9 1894 in Mason County he married Lillis Eubank July 10 1926 in Brady. A McCulloch County rancher and Church of Christ member WWI veteran he served as precinct 2 commissioner for several years. Survivors include his wife a son Jack Edmiston of Voca a daughter Mia K Owens of Abilene and four grandchildren.
Juan Munoz Adame 60, of Brady died Tuesday after a short illness in Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. Mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. George Green officiating. Burial under Brady Funeral Home direction. Born Oct 21, 1914 in Brady, he lived in McCulloch County all his life. He married Ruby Nystrom and worked 20 years for Ford Ranch. Survivors: Ruby Nystrom Adame, a son Jimmy Doyle Adame of Brownwood, brother John Adame of San Antonio, sister Mrs. Julia Moron of Brady.
Arley F. Marshall 54 of Del Rio died after a short illness. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bill Boswell officiating. Burial in West Haven Cemetery. Marshall, born December 6, 1920 in Field Creek, was a retired civil service employee and 20 year Air Force veteran. Survived by wife Georgia Joy, a Brady daughter, a Houston sister, and three brothers.
Webb Fry 55 died at 1 50 a m Monday at his home after a long illness. Services were 930 a m Tuesday at Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ with Henry McBroom officiating. Burial at Mt Olivet Cemetery Fort Worth. born Reno Arkansas June 14 1919, married Billie Crane August 14 1940 Fort Worth. He ministered in Brady and Fort Worth area churches, WW II veteran, Abilene Christian College graduate, reared at Boles Children's Home Quinlan. Survivors include son David Fry and daughter Cheryl Martin of Fort Worth, two brothers L L Fry Brownwood and D D Pete Fry Fort Worth.
Jesse James Williams, 92, of Dublin, died Wednesday morning in Dublin. Funeral 2 p m Friday Brady Funeral Home Chapel conducted by William Simons. Burial Rest Haven Cemetery. Born Oct 1 1882 in Brackettville he married Rhoda Ellen Williams. Survivors include wife four sons two daughters a brother 30 grandchildren 83 great grandchildren nine great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rose Ollie Chambers 73 of Maydelle died in a Jacksonville hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Brady Funeral Home Chapel with two ministers officiating. Burial followed in Carroll Colony Cemetery. Surviving are her daughter Jimmie Mae Williams of Maydelle, brother J. D. Blackwell of Brady, sister Dollie Shaw of Brownwood, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
