Burglars Hit South Bridge Street Stores For $11,000 In Merch

New Year’s burglars stole over $11,000 in jewelry, dresses, and men’s wear from Kelso’s Jewelry at 1402 South Bridge, Thelma’s Dress Shop at 1211 South Bridge, and The Gent’s Store at 12114 South Bridge. Kelso estimates $10,000+ lost in diamonds and watches. Park and Thelma note about $1,000 in merchandize plus small cash loss. Police and Texas Rangers investigated as burglars entered through back doors after midnight.

Pontotoc Girl Wounded by Stray Bullet in Hunt Area

Patsy Tatach, 16, of Pontotoc, improved at Liano Memorial Hospital after a freak shooting on Loyal Valley road between Liano and Loyal Valley. She was riding with Jerry Dixon when a bullet pierced the cab, hitting her left thigh. Sheriff L B Turbiville called it a stray bullet incident with no nearby car or person found.

Mrs Gordon Appleton and Mrs Patsy Quinn left Dallas for San Francisco on the first leg of a trip to Honolulu Hawaii. They will stay with Mrs Linda Miley over the weekend and attend the Hula Bowl Saturday afternoon where Scott Appleton will play as everybody’s All American.

Ex-Feed Mill Operator Jim Robertson Dies at 67

Jim Robertson 67 long time operator of a Brady feed mill died at 2 40 a m in St Pauls Hospital Dallas after several weeks of illness. He lived at 406 South China Street and operated a mill at 101 Fast Richards Street until Aug 1 sale to Chester Wilson. He and Velma Whitt married June 4 1958. Funeral service was held at Wilkerson Funeral Home with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. Survived by wife two sons a daughter two stepsons 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Local Birth Announced for Nicholas Aar on December 12

Lester and Mrs. Dahlberg of San Angelo welcome their first child Nicholas Aar on December 12 weighing eight and one half pounds. He becomes the first grandchild for the Dahlbergs. Guests visiting the Dahlbergs include V V Cave family and relatives from Houston Melvin and East Peoria.

Vogel Johnson First to File For Re election

Two candidates Sheriff Luke Vowel and County Commissioner Paul Johnson filed early to seek re election as the 1964 campaign opens. Vowel has served as sheriff since 1954 while Johnson seeks a second term as Precinct 1 commissioner. Filings run until February. The first Democratic primary is May 2 with a runoff set for June 6.

Mrs Jim McCulloch, 82, of Doole died at 4 10 p m Tuesday in Pangs A native of Alabama born February 26 1881 she married in 1903 in Sherman Moving to Coleman County in 1910 she lived in Gouldbusk before moving to Doole six years ago Survivors include daughter Mrs Eva Murrell of Doole two granddaughters and three great grandchildren Burial was at Gouldbusk Cemetery in Gouldbusk Texas.

Relatives Attend Wilson Rites In Local Funeral

Relatives and friends gathered last Saturday for the funeral of James Frances Wilson, 51, who died December 25. The service was at Central Baptist Church with burial at Brown Cemetery near Voca. Burglars Break Into Cox Photo Studio on Blackburn Street

Burglars entered Cox Studio at 705 South Blackburn Street Wednesday night but nothing was reported missing by Thursday morning. A south window pane was knocked out to unlock the building and the thief likely exited through the back door. Mrs. Novice Carlson, an employee, noted owner Hugh Cox had been at the shop Wednesday afternoon, leading to the belief the break in occurred then.
