Brady area reports a successful fund drive and planning activity for the new Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. Community leaders, medical staff, and volunteers highlighted fundraising progress and project milestones for the proposed facility.
The Brady Standard Herald survey lists the Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital project led by Harold Warren as the top story with a goal of 480 000 and 2 308 donors delivering 440 420 in pledges by May 15. Excalibur Aviation closure in Brady follows, affecting about 100 workers. A severe dry spell since September and a $842 640 Brady Independent School District budget also feature, along with the death of Maj. Gen Earl Rudder, former mayor of Brady and A&M president. A property revaluation for school tax prompted an injunction by four McCulloch County ranchers.
Brady's cagers rebounded from a 71-45 loss to Coleman to beat McCamey 78-71 for third in the Howard Payne Tournament. Terry Penn led Brady with 32 in the win after a sluggish third and fourth period, while Coleman edged Brady 71-45 in the earlier game with Wood scoring 21. Bolen led McCamey with 21 in their loss to Brady for the consolation trophy.
