Proponents push home rule city manager government for Brady as candidates discuss April 2 council election. Texas Municipal League outlines contrasts with general law: charter flexibility, local democracy, and potential for elections, appointments, and administrative structure change.
Passing By recounts last Friday’s J Day at the University of Texas at Arlington where 1926 graduates, editors, faculty, and journalism alumni gathered in Ransom Hall. Nostalgia centers on NTAC’s evolution to Arlington State College and then UT Arlington, with Ransom Hall renovated and dedicated to W. A. Ransom.
Dana Morrison, president of Bicycle The Americas in Anaheim California, announces the 1977 goodwill marathon from California to Florida departing July 15. The 30 day event will reach Brady around July 21 and invites Brady cyclists or helpers to join or assist with local arrangements. The fully supported tour travels to Orlando and Cape Kennedy with a roster open to participants nationwide.
Brady Jaycees and Jaycee Wives finish second and fourth in the TSCRA Centennial Championship Barbecue Beef Cookoff at the Fort Worth convention center. The Tugboat Cookers led by Gilbert Currie and The Better Half Cookers led by Mary King cooked USDA choice briskets over wood coals and served samples at the Welcome Cocktail Party. Sponsorship from Jones Cattle Co. and Commercial National Bank supported the Brady entry.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Brady on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ. Donating a pint of blood could save a life and organizers urge a repeat turnout after a successful previous visit led by Mrs. Gladys Salter.
The Standard and KNEL hosted an At Issues party forum at the radio station with city council candidates. Most had accepted by Wednesday morning to state positions. Absentee voting through March 29. election day is Saturday, April 2 in City Hall.
The Heart of Texas Tennis Association sponsors a youth tournament for McCulloch County children on Saturday April 2 at Stanburn Courts. Brackets cover ages 6 10 11 12 13 14 15 and 16 18 with singles and doubles. entries due March 31. Fees 3 singles 5 doubles. bring lunch.
Seventy six Quarter Horse owners have paid third sustaining fee for the Futurity at G. Rollie White Downs during the Jubilee Spring Meet April 9-10 and 16-17. The 330 yard race may offer near 40000 purse. 12 races daily planned over four days with trials first weekend and finals later.
