City Council orders tighter meter enforcement after revenue drop from 16172 in 1962 to 8221 in 1960. Police Chief urged patrolmen to ticket cars on red meters, citing public relations efforts by meter reader Mrs. Ida Mae Sears and a view that enforcement builds respect for law.
Brady voters read that the State Insurance Commission reduced the city fire insurance credit from 15 to 10 percent effective April 1 based on local fire loss records. Dana Williams, legislative chairman of the Texas State Teachers Association, told McCulloch County educators in Brady that this legislative session could raise teacher salaries. He cited a broader goal of quality education requiring up to 32 billion dollars by 1970 and urged administrators and the public to support reform while teaching better. In the meeting the association elected L A Bryson president for 1961 62 with Ed Whiteley, E L Ross, Billy Moseley and E J Powell in leadership posts.
Frank Everett Deck died at his home west of Pear Valley at 2 30 a m Thursday. A stock farmer and ginner, he lived in Pear Valley since 1920 and married Daily Fought on December 10 1927. Born December 17 1902 in Virginia, funeral arrangements were pending at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife a daughter Mrs J L Odle of Beaumont two grandchildren his mother Mrs J L Deck of Eden three brothers R J of Lohn Charlie of Midland Zeb Deck of Paint Rock and a sister Mrs E L Carter of Eden.
The Llano Jackettes girls basketball team, District 18-AA champions, will face Rockdale for the bi-district title next Tuesday at 7 30 PM in the Southwestern University gym at Georgetown.
Two college bands join the Hearts Texas Band Festival in Brady March 3 and 4. Tarleton State College’s Tophatters, directed by Himar Wagner, perform play night March 3 in the Brady High gym. Abilene Christian College Band, a 125 piece group directed by Douglas Fry, headlines the Saturday concert and parade.
