Eager teams Richland and Eden meet Tuesday night February 23 in the first District 21-E playoff to decide the title. A tie with Paint Rock remains possible if Richland and Eden share the win, with Lohn hosting the decisive game at 7 30 p m.
An afternoon crash at Church and West 7th sent four people to Brady Hospital. Ben F. Rothmann 67 suffered head and chest injuries, Guadalupe Olivares 34 chest and knee injuries, and Olivares' daughter Rose with injuries. Rothmann drove eastbound in a Chevrolet while the Olivares 1955 Chevrolet was northbound. The collision occurred around an unknown time. both cars were severely damaged.
Brady Lions Club raised more than 500 from a two night show here this week. The club voted to donate gifts to Mrs. Hilma Stockstill and David Groves for their piano work. Proceeds will support local Lions conservation and children's programs.
Gary, daughter of Mr and Mrs W T Gary, is a freshman at San Angelo College and among 88 students named to the Dean's honor roll from a Fall semester total of 845 students.
The old Frisco and Santa Fe rail corridor from Brady to Brownwood is being ripped up as the roadbed remains the only trace. The line, crucial to Brady’s cattle trade since 1903, connected Brady with Mercury Placid and Rochelle, and Santa Fe now may sell the 42 mile right of way.
High School students are invited to a square dancing session at the Country Club Friday night. Teachers Nelson and Faye Dukes will guide beginners from the first step. The event runs 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. with admission 50 cents per person.
Rochelle Hornets outscored Richland Springs 64 34 to capture their first district basketball championship in history. Coach Kenneth Mitchell notes the title as Rochelle’s first clear district crown. the team finishes 15 7 and led District 21 B with 8 2. Rochelle faces Jim Ned next, with Brownwood tourney looming, as two Friday games against Blanket cap the week. Hugh Doyal leads with 496 points. others include Hagler Graham Price McDonald Banks Nowlin Cowan and Doyal.
The Brady Rotary Club mailed a $100 check to fund a 20 foot picnic table at Richards Park. Hardin Jones, chairman of the four chamber of commerce committee, says other civic groups may join to fund more park tables.
Belton, state AA champs 1958, bring a 30 4 record to face Brady whose 17 7 season includes 11 straight wins. Main stars include 6 5 inches and football end Richard Inman, with the game set for Tuesday at 8 p m doors open 6 45 p m attendance limited to 700 750.
Brady's Pupettes and the Lam pasas Badgerettes share District 16-AA girls crown with identical 7-1 records. A winner-take-all game Friday Feb 26 at Llano 7:30 p.m. will decide district representative for state playoffs, then facing West in a further series toward Denton and Austin. Janice Davenport led Brady with 21 points, Tommye Low 18.
The trial of L. B. Waters charged with sale of unregistered stock is indefinitely postponed. District Attorney Gordon Griffin Jr. announced jurors summoned for Monday need not report and witnesses need not report until further notice, the defense motioned for the continuation.
The semi annual clean up for Cowboy Cemetery is set for Monday February 22. Families are asked to bring bucket lunches and participate in the work.
