Corps to Spend Millions For Texas Water Projects
The Army Corps of Engineers plans a record 183 million dollars in Southwestern projects this year across eight states. In Texas, four major efforts start this year including Stillhouse and Somerville Dams, a hurricane protection project at Texas City, and the Port Aransas Corpus Christi channel deepening. Projects span Canyon, McGee Bend, Navarro Mills, Proctor, Waco, San Antonio Floodway, Somerville Dam, Stillhouse Hollow, Buffalo Bayou, Matagorda Ship Channel, Houston Ship Channel, Port Aransas Corpus Christi Waterway, Sabine Neches Waterway, Intracoastal Waterway segments, and related dredging and flood protections with completion goals through 1966.
