New 4 Cent Stamp Honors Nursing Profession
A 4 cent postage stamp honoring the nursing profession goes on sale in Brady after a Washington dedication. Ellen Berquist, a nurse since 1917, receives the first Brady stamp, reflecting her long service in Brady Hospital and multiple nursing roles. The stamp honors over 460,000 registered nurses and 250,000 practical nurses nationwide. Seth Lowell and family spent Christmas in Brady with friends.

Mrs Pointer of Brady Dies
Effie Lorene Pointer 77 of Brady died December 23 at Medical Surgical Hospital. Born Milburn December 17 1884 she married Ira C Pointer December 25 1901 and lived in Brady 18 years. Survivors include three sons Curtis Kerrville J D Odessa Sidney Pointer Lelia Lake two daughters Lorene Cawyer Brady and Mrs Charles A Quist Jr San Antonio a brother J C Penn Mercury a sister Mrs E H Beakley Eden nine grandchildren ten great grandchildren.

Council Accepts Lake Bid To Let Weatherford Builder Start
The City Council awarded Weatherford contractor Roland L. Scherer a 1,044,277 dollar contract for Brady Lake construction. Mayor Priesmeyer and City Secretary Groves will sign the agreement as Scherer prepares to move in equipment. He cites prior dam work and endorsements from Freese Nichols Endrese, Weatherford, and the Soil Conservation Service.

Final statistics show the Brady Bulldogs relied on quarterback Charles Reynolds and halfback Harry Bowden in a strong 1961 season. Bowden led rushers with 1,176 yards on 173 carries, Reynolds gained 069 yards on 148 attempts, and Reynolds passed 59 of 106 for 1,146 yards with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Reynolds also punted 20 times. Darrell Roper had 25 receptions for 687 yards. The Bulldogs finished 12–2, scoring 414 points while allowing 140.

Auction Ring Here Sold to Jernigan in May Sale
Malcolm Jernigan of Goldthwaite and Wayne May of Llano buy the Heart of Texas Commission Company from H D Griffith and son Derry. The first sale under new ownership is set for Monday January 8 at noon and will be held each Monday thereafter. Jernigan runs a live stock auction in Goldthwaite and May operates one in Llano and Browsford. Mrs. Ogden remains bookkeeper and office manager.

Winters Blizzards defeat Brady Bulldogs in tough outing
Winters Blizzards pulled away in the fourth period to beat Brady High 51 40 as Brady trailed 20 19 at halftime. Darrell Ropers led Brady with 14 and George Kidd had 10. Pups lost 53 35 in the B game with Greg Chase scoring 19. Brady games move to Eldorado Friday and return next Tuesday.

On December 25 two Brady families welcomed newborns. A boy was born at Brady Hospital at 2 47 a m to Brady Coach and Mrs Charles Brewster. A girl arrived at 10 25 a m to Mr and Mrs Mark Poe of Brady.

Men Up to 22 May Enlist in National Guard
As of January 1 1962 men under 22 may enlist in the National Guard. Sgt Paul Cude of the local unit announced the restriction will be lifted temporarily. Enlistment is for a three year period.
