Judges chose Ernst Otte at 201 W 17th for first, Egan Fowler at 2027 S China for second, and E J Brock at 1211 S Blackburn for third in the annual Brady Chamber of Commerce contest. Honorable mentions went to Frank Roddie Cecil Striegler and Boyd Hunt. The winners receive 20 15 and 10 dollars respectively.

Ike Benford Dies Tuesday in Brady at 80
Ike Benford 80 of Brady died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after a long illness at Monterey-Brady Nursing Inn. Funeral services were held Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. J. L. Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Live Oak Cemetery. Born January 1891 in Bastrop County he lived in Brady and McCulloch County 35 years. He was a retired construction worker and World War I veteran. Survivors include brother Edgar Benford two sisters Edna Taylor and Corine Benford three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Willie Dobbs Phillip McGowan Sam Smith Jr. Willie Harris Bennis Walton and Obey Callaway.

Mrs. Mirle Rashall Dies At Silsbee
Mirle Barton Rashall, 61, formerly of Fife and Brady, died December 21 at Silsbee. Funeral and burial are set for Friday in Silsbee. Survivors include husband, two sons, a daughter, and 11 grandchildren. Relatives in Brady named Merle Barton Rashall and several wives of local men. Mr and Mrs Parker Pumphrey traveled to Fort Worth for Christmas with Dr. and Mrs A B Pumphrey.

Brady City Council OKs Fire Truck and Rate Adjustment
The Brady city council in regular session learned the American LaFrance fire truck was accepted as sufficient by the State Fire Insurance Board after an inspection and Abilene repairs. The board removed the penalty on Brady’s key rate. A new truck is planned after Jan 1 as Chief Salter drafts specifications. The council discussed drainage fixes at Brady Lake with Soil Conservation Service and a $4,000 to $8,000 spill basin project.

Lee Rodgers 61 of Brady died at 9 20 p m Wednesday in Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Wilkerson Funeral Home handled local arrangements with Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum in charge of the other arrangements. Rodgers had lived at the Monterey Brady Nursing Inn.
