Brady school officials publish required supply lists for grades one through five. Opening day will be full. Each grade itemizes specific tools from crayons and scissors to glue, notebooks, rulers, and erasers with rules on labeling and clipboard use.
Brady High School registered 346 students across four grades after two days, with seniors 89 juniors 8 9 sophomores 76 and freshmen 92. Principal Ed Whiteley notes more students may enroll as fees are collected and the first week continues. Brady elementary schools open Tuesday September 2 for a full day. overall city total to be released after day one.
Sept. Carl James announced Lohn Schools opened Monday with 94 students through Tuesday and an expectation of four more. Enrollment is up three from 91 on the first day last year. eight grade pupils total 64 and high school 30. James said the day went well and all teachers were present.
McCulloch County commissioners redraw and approve precincts 1 2 3 and 4 effective Oct 1 1969. City of Brady joins all four precincts and two courthouse boxes are abolished. Justice precincts align with commissioners' precincts following Supreme Court one man one vote rulings.
Dick J. Marsden Sr. 87 of Brady died at 6 a.m. Wednesday after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with burial in Live Oak Cemetery. Born June 5, 1882 in Beeville he lived in Brady 84 years. He was a retired McCulloch County employee. He married Mattie Lee Hewey March 4, 1918 in Brady. Survivors include his wife a daughter Mrs. Paul Hanson of Lampasas two sons T. H. Marsden of San Angelo and Dick J. Marsden Jr. of Brady 12 grandchildren five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
About 150 camping square dancers from 19 towns gathered at Brady Lake last weekend. The southern southwest area group filled shelters with campers and trailers and held a Saturday night dance with 11 callers. Dances ran through the night with badges earned for weird wakeups, a dam badge atop the dam and a revenge badge at 5 am. Tom and Flora Wiley of Brady led the grand march. San Antonio and Austin caller lineups included Obie Holcomb Kinesland Flora Duner and others. Big Spring towns represented included San Antonio Austin Kerrville and Braddy Lake facilities impressed visitors.
Lucy Mae Ricks Shelton 58 of Brownwood and formerly Brady died early Monday of an apparent heart attack at her home in Brownwood. She taught homemaking in area schools and was active in Girl Scouts and Future Homemakers of America. Survivors include three daughters and six grandchildren. Memorials to Brownwood Community Hospital or Brownwood Library.
