Smith clan reunion recalls farm life and Ivy League links
Last Sunday the Smith descendants gathered in Jacksboro to celebrate their Wise County pioneer heritage. A childhood mishap with a tree limb left a scar and crutches, but the family notes continued pride as cousins, a Dartmouth graduate cousin, a Boston University law graduate now practicing in New York, a nutrition instructor in Washington, and two Texas graduates highlight the next generation.

Rochelle first day enrollment tops decade mark
Supt Kenneth Mitchell said Rochelle opened with 136 students on Wednesday, the largest first day in over ten years and 31 more than last year. He noted 20 of the 30 new students are in kindergarten through fourth grade and expressed optimism for an outstanding year.

Fire Destroys Home Tuesday in Brady
A Brady family of four lost most possessions in a Tuesday noon fire at their rental home 200 West Victoria. Mrs. Haney saved clothes and some furniture, injured with a hairline ankle fracture while rescuing the children. Bank fund set. clothing sizes listed and aid requested.

Dream Comes True For Kiwanis Club Open House
The Brady Kiwanis Club opens the McCulloch County Youth Center with a Friday night open house at the former veterans hall on POW Camp Road. The gold exterior and beige interior feature school insignias Rochelle Hornet Brady Bulldog and John Eagle with room for dancing and seating. The game tables are due but the center is ready for use and invites all McCulloch County to visit.

Traffic light proposal eyed for South Bridge and 17th Street
Traffic Engineer John Arthur told Brownwood City Council Austin must approve a light at South Bridge and 17th Streets after meeting state criteria. The council also heard of a loan review approval for Brady Lake repairs, a 35 percent city share, and plans to buy two way radios for city use.
