Little League managers honored for service and support

Gold trophies were awarded Tuesday night to Little League managers in appreciation of their work with kids. Dick Gleaton presented the trophies and accepted a president’s trophy for two years’ service. Managers Hunter Ables Vernon Dorsett Carl Schoene wolf Buford Sheffield Calvin Mitchell received engraved plaques. others Aaron Roper Leonard Atherton will collect theirs later. Elmer McLean praised youth support while managers estimated they mentored 200 to 300 boys over four years.

Two Guests to Speak at Methodist Church Services

The First Methodist Church will host two guest speakers Sunday. Rev. C. N. Turnell will speak at morning services as a field representative of the Texas Mission Home and Training School in San Antonio. Dr. Bill Jack Marshall will speak at the evening service. he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. I. Marshall of Brady and plans missionary work in Bolivia.

Brady High Grads Pick Colleges. North Texas and UT Lead

Brady High graduates enroll in Texas colleges for fall with North Texas and the University of Texas each getting seven freshmen. Other popular choices include Texas Tech with five, Abilene Christian College two, and several students transferring to Texas A&M West Point nursing programs and other schools across the state. Additional graduates plan to attend San Angelo College Pan-American College Southwest Texas State College Sul Ross College and other regional institutions.

Storm tears up crops in Waldrip and Melvin

A small tornado and hail lashed Waldrip and Melvin early Thursday, damaging outbuildings and house tops while decimating crops. About 1 to 2 inches of rain fell in Waldrip and Melvin, with hailstones up to half dollars shredding grain and leaves. Local residents reported extensive losses to cotton and feed crops, and damaged homes and poultry structures amid strong winds and lightning.

Council Makes First Payment on Country Club

The City Council authorized paying 305.07 on a note held by Brady Building and Loan Association for the Country Club covering May to August at 73.70 monthly plus insurance. They chose to continue payments until operation arrangements are completed. Also approved six days work for Board of Equalization analysts and discussed city garbage fee inequities for business firms. City Attorney Sam McCollum noted difficulty in fair rate setting.

Brady High School Opens Registration Weeks Before Classes

Brady High School announces staggered registration starting Tuesday August 23 for seniors and juniors, and Wednesday August 24 for sophomores and freshmen, with lockers books and schedules issued. Regular classes begin Monday August 29, buses run on last year routes with one new route to be announced, and lunch prices set at 30 cents.

Brady High School band elects five majorettes and alternates

The Brady High School Bulldog Band at Garner State Park elected five majorettes Karen Hartley Betty Woodard Cle Ann Ethridge Patricia Wood and Gloria Watson with Nancy Wilkerson as alternate. Drum major Diane Roddie was chosen last spring for the 1955 56 season.

FFA Installs New Officers at Brady High

Lesley Fisher was installed as president of the Brady High School FFA chapter Tuesday. He succeeds Billy Joe Nicholas. New officers assumed duties Tuesday night include Bobby Joy as vice president Winston Booker secretary Johnny Bradshaw treasurer Danny Miller reporter W T McLean sentinel Dick Moseley parliamentarian Edward Spiller historian Jackie Wallin second vice president and Charles Bode third vice president.

Dawgs to Honor Dogs at Fall Barbecue

The Houn' Dawgs host the annual fall barbecue at Brady High Stadium on Friday night. 1955 Bulldog football squad members will be honored guests as serving begins at 7 30 p m. tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for children. All Bulldog fans invited.

Katemcy Homecoming Celebrates Fifth Year September 4

The fifth annual Katemcy Homecoming will be held Sunday September 4 with meats plates cups coffee provided. Attendees should bring pies cakes salads and other foods. Former residents and others are invited to attend the affair.

Miss Bernice Spiller,instructor at Sioux Falls College of Nursing, returned to Sioux Falls South Dakota Tuesday after attending her father W. W. Spiller’s funeral.

Committee Appoints Budget Panel for Chest Agencies

Dr. James Anderson, president of the McCulloch County Community Chest, named B. N. Winston as chairman of a new budget committee with Wayne Ferguson and Hart Fowler. The panel will request proposed budgets from nine agencies and representatives will meet later to ensure minimum needs are met within the community’s means. The last year’s agencies included Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army, McCulloch County Charities, American Cancer Society, the Heart Fund, Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation, McCulloch County Home, and USO.
