Brady High announces student registration schedule

Brady High School sets fall registration for August 20 and 21 with seniors at 8 30 a m and juniors at 1 30 p m Tuesday August 20 and sophomores and freshmen on Wednesday August 21 in the library. A 1.10 library and ink fee applies and optional 2 insurance may be paid at enrollment.

Melvin High selects Rotan coach Bernard Weems

Bernard Weems of Rotan has been elected to coach the Melvin High School Bulldogs. A Rotan High School and McMurry College (Abilene) graduate, he was assistant coach at Rotan last year and will move to Melvin to begin football workouts August 26 with wife and child.

Returns Home From Camp Capers Visitors

Mary Ann Dillon returned home today from Camp Capers where she was a counselor this week. Miss Sherron Akins, David Knopt of San Antonio, Dale Le Strougen of Corpus Christi, and Dick Thayer of Port Lavaca came back with her to spend a week visiting. The group had been counselors with her at Camp Capers. Also, Vacation In Boston Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roddie and children Frankie and Diane returned this week from two weeks in Boston, stopping in Chicago where Diane visited a schoolmate.

Brady Streets Get New Surfacing In Summer Paving

Forty-three blocks in Brady receive new pavement in the citys summer paving program. Streets Supt Lillard Holts crew coordinates. C C Construction Co of Colorado City performs the paving. Seal coating covers thirty-one blocks and minor one course treatments across several streets. West 16th Street sees new pavement with curb and gutter on two blocks, plus other blocks receive one course treatment. Seal coating applied to Crothers Avenue West Eighth West 11th East Commerce West 15th West 14th. The one course treatment affects portions of West 16th West 15th South College South Cypress South Walnut and South China Streets.

McCulloch County representatives attended an electric clinic in Menard on Tuesday. Participants included County Agent Jimmy Casenbary, Dale Anderson, Gil Engdahl, HD Agent Mrs. Mildred Dail, Miss Louise Hurd, Nancy Hill and Patsy Engdahl, with support from the Texas Extension Service and West Texas Utilities Co.

Tickets for the Brady Bulldogs annual fall barbecue are available at MeKean's Storting Goods or from Clarence Cale. The event will be at Richards Park in Talntse, on August 22 at Bulldog Stadium. Admission is 1 for adults and 5 for children.

Band Plans Barbecue to Unveil Brady High Uniforms

Brady High School Bulldog Band will display 83 new uniforms at a barbecue in Bulldeg Stadium Friday night August 39 at 8 o clock. The $5330 cost is covered by $2000 from the School Board and $1000 from Band Boosters with a $2330 loan to be repaid in installments. Barbecue tickets are $1. Booster meal and entertainment promised, old uniforms to Brady Junior High. A barbecue committees meeting is set for Monday August 19 at 7:30 in the high school band hall.

Nine girls vie for Farm Bureau Queen title in Brady

Nine candidates for the McCulloch County Farm Bureau Queen contest will compete Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Brady High School auditorium. A future queen will be chosen from 15 younger girls, and out-of-town judges will rate contestants on appearance, poise and personality. A district contest follows in Fredericksburg August 29, with the state contest thereafter. Ann Fullagar will provide musical selections along with local performers.

Brady High Ex Named Backfield Coach at Robstown

Randy Owens, former Melvin High School backfield coach for two years, is appointed backfield coach at Robstown High School. He will report late next week as workouts begin August 30. Owens, Brady High School alumnus and son of A. W. Owens, played at San Angelo College and the University of Houston, earned a physical education degree, served in the Army, and started coaching at Melvin in 1955. He will oppose his Brady coach Russ Holland, who leads the Kingsville Brahmas in District 15-AAA.

David Dahlberg of West Sweden Rh Faulkner of Pear Valley and Louis Tengate of Brookesmith named to the co op board at its annual meeting at the Brady Theatre. Dahlberg will represent District 9 in his first term Faulkner from District 4 and Tow gate from District 8 were re elected to second three year terms.

Ex Bradyite Wins Harvard Scholarship for Water Studies

Clyde Graham, former Bradyite now in Arlington Virginia and employed by the Soil Conservation Service, renews his Standard subscription and reports flood prevention work on Brady Creek moving along.
