Local merchants prepare for a street market event scheduled for August 16 with merchandise sold directly on the sidewalk in front of participating stores. The deadline for advertising copy is Tuesday August 12 at 5 p m due to printing in Fredericksburg at Hill Country Community Press Inc.
The Melvin Baptist Church announces a revival Aug 10 to 17 at 7 30 each evening Rev Tommy Austin of Oakridge Baptist Church Spring will preach Music director Steve Faulkner a Howard Payne College music major Brownwood will lead the music.
Here From St. Louis Mr. and Mrs. Roger Spiller and daughters Suzanne and Sherilyn of St. Louis Missouri are visiting this week with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Spiller and Mrs. Spiller's great grandmother Mrs. Fred Taylor and grandmother Mrs. Rita Mae Stallings. They also visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gault of San Angelo.
The City Golf Tournament begins this week with first rounds due by Aug 19 and finals on Aug 24. Men's Division features Karlton Steffens facing Ernest Barker and other matchups. multiple flights list numerous players and their first round pairings.
Lynn McMillan 16 won the Farm Bureau Queen title with sister Betty Sue 19 as runner up. Vicki Gamblin, winner of Talent Fund, repeats prior win. Contestants hailed from Brady, Lohn, East Sweden, Melvin, and Placid with judges from Wall, Tom Green County.
Dr Steve King returned home Sunday from Clinic Hospital in San Angelo after eye removal surgery following a freak horse incident at Brady Veterinary Hospital. Mrs King said Wednesday he was doing fine and progressing nicely.
The Brady Bulldog Band announces the Brady High School recording is ready for orders pickup at the band hall. Director James Mallow notes delivery can be arranged by calling the band hall. The record covers 1966 to 1969 contest performances by the Bulldog and Junior High bands with a 1968-69 history photo.
Mrs. Marvin Rinker returned to Virginia Sunday following a nine day visit with relatives in Brady Texas. She was reunited with Mr. and Mrs. Swen Herman their son Clarence Hermanson and family and Mrs. James E. Jordan and family. Leroy Hermanson and family from Uvalde also visited Brady. Mrs. Rinker has lived in Virginia for 16 years and previously resided in Brady.
The Concho County Singing Convention will gather Sunday at 2 p m at the Eden Baptist Church. The event invites the public to attend and participate.
McCulloch County voters favored six of nine constitutional amendments in a light turnout of 669 ballots from 3,176 registered voters. Precinct totals varied with Mercury backing none, while statewide results showed strong opposition to legislators pay and annual sessions, and broad support for welfare funds survivor aid and student loan measures.
Brady High School hosts the Brady Annual Schoolboy Partnership Golf Tournament with 21 teams in 42 players. Ben McCulloh and Albert Pearson win ninth and tenth grade division in a sudden death playoff after a 75 best-ball. Rod Harrel and Ricky Gary top the eighth grade and under division with 98. Charles Michael and Jeff Giles win the 11th and 12th grade division with 70 after four-hole playoff. Other Brady players included Danny Neal Fred McDonough 71 and Bill Simpson Hal Huffman 78.
John Bucy owner operator of Heart of Texas Pharmacy announces a 3rd Anniversary Sale opening Friday August 8 and running 10 days. The event offers household items drugs school supplies and other merchandise with guaranteed stock at opening though quantities are limited so shoppers should buy early.
The Ol' Houn' Dawgs Club will hold a special called meeting Monday at 7 30 p m at the Brady High School field house. Interested persons are invited to attend.
